The existence of the term "con crud" really should have been a greater indicator of how spaces are constructed and managed to exacerbate or mitigate the spread of illness.
Happy GAAD Day, everyone! We have officially launched the crowdfunding campaign for Eventably. The world's first fully accessible events management and ticketing platform:
From May 3 to May 24, I'll be "exhibiting" at TCAF's Digital Marketplace! \ o / Besides my usual wares, I have a BRAND NEW SHORT COMIC (in color??!), a free crossover fancomic and a special collected edition of my webcomic!
I wish I could go to GalaxyCon Columbus but I just can’t make it make sense for me 😔 I’m too anxious about flying and I’m not sure my car would survive the trip and also driving to Ohio in December sounds like a terrible idea?? @izzycanyon miss everyone so much 😭
I’m still actively trying to justify Supercon in July so maybe I will see some @izzycanyon friends there 🥺 even though Con isn’t booked (yet???) (fingers crossed???)
Hip, hip and hurrah! If you cannot make it to TCAF this year, then mayhaps peruse our own digital booth over at their Digital Marketplace! Come download our FREE and NEW Showcase Special, showing off our member comics!
Are you going to TCAF this weekend? Do you want to spread the good word of our comic collective? Then download our flyers for FREE, print at home or at a copy center, and share them at the convention (nicely, please)!
Coming out of post-con hibernation for a bit to start making posts. (Also good morning to the EDT time zone. :4504_aqua_laugh: )
Anime Boston was a lot of fun! It's been 10 years since I started going to AB, and the con still holds a special place in my heart. Last year was the first time I cosplayed Yohane, which has led to a year of fun and happiness as I've met so many great people in the local cosplay and idol communities. This year, I did way more with cosplay than ever before, and while I'm really eager to improve a lot of things, I'm also pretty proud of what I've done (and proud of the fact that I'm now dissatisfied with things that are far better than my best from a year ago.)
Some event highlights for me:
-The Queen Bee concert on Friday. Avu-chan is an incredibly talented vocalist, and this comes through even better live :mexcitedmiku:
-The idol showcase. Every group really showed their stuff. So many incredible performances, I really love watching and cheering for all the groups here.
-An excellent panel on plus-sized cosplay, with both broader perspectives on inclusivity and some great practical tips.
First cosplay pic post, I was gonna be Maki for day 0 but I was late coming out of work and forgot my wig. :TamakoLaugh: Still took a pic with it on back home though.
Metam0re is looking for vendors/artists for Summer Id0l Jam 2024, to be held on July 27th in Framingham, MA. It's a free entry single day idol-themed con-type event, mainly featuring idol showcases (plural!!! :mexcitedmiku: ), singing, and a cosplay contest. Last year's was easily one of the most fun events of the year. They're looking to grow it out a lot this year, in one way by having a market area for vendors. (Because we clearly need another way to spend money on merch. The Miku pin I bought at the artist alley last weekend was a need, it was Miku day! :leafeonmoney: ) Figure I should post about it here since word tends to spread mainly on instagram, but there are a decent number of fanartists and folks in the Northeast US/Boston-area specifically on Fedi!
Northeast ComicCon overall was pretty fun. Another smaller con (though with a rather big exhibitor's hall for a smaller con). And a lot more emphasis on general pop culture than most cons I go to (not that that stopped me from being anime characters all weekend :ElainaEvil: ). I think the crowd was a combination of older nerds and kids, which was cute (so many cute events for kids :blobfoxcute:).
Took some pictures at the exhibit by Kelley's Droids, which was really neat. :AquaYeah:
The idol showcase at Northeast ComicCon yesterday was a lot of fun! :AquaYeah: There were a lot of amazing performances! And I think my own performance went pretty well. :mexcitedmiku: (I may have gotten a few more people to watch Macross too. :akko_giggle: )
Pictures thanks to @hardcorefandomtrash (instagram).
Getting hyped for Northeast Comic Con, from March 8-10! :akko_excited: Posting cosplay lineup. Friday/Sunday are kind of tentative, I might switch one out with Maki.
Really excited for Saturday, which will be my second performance in an idol showcase! :mexcitedmiku: I'll be performing Reina Prowler's Silent Hacker from Macross Delta. (Not doing Love Live?! :ChikaScared: )
I used to visit many conventions with my ex (that's also where we met).
Many picture have her in it... So they need an edit to share.
But some... Are just me.
This is one of them!
Meeting Nana Vistitor at FedCon, best known as Major Kira Nerys in Star Trek: Deep Space 9.
Hello! I'm Wes, and I wear many hats. By day I am an IT Guru at a local self driving car company, by night I am a Photographer / Videographer operating in the Music (Pittsburgh) and Fandom (Conventions) areas.
I run with Windows as my main desktop, but Linux automates much of my life. At home I am
OS agnostic. I have used Windows, Linux, MacOS, Android and iOS in my day to day. I script and code and automate.
I'm currently watching a lot of Anime, and addicted to MCU and in general special effects heavy movies/shows. I am a Trekkie, Farscaper, and Serenity-ite
I like to play games with automation / factory type play style. I also play Minecraft (run a server with help), Shapez2 (alpha), and in general don't have as much time to play as I like.
My music tastes are everywhere. Before I moved to Pittsburgh, it was varied. Today with all the work I do with musicians it has only grown more. One day I can chill in the Darkwave scene, the next catch a local folk artist complete with a Uke in tow.
I attend at least 3 Fandom Conventions a year (because I volunteer at them):
connecticon.org
katsucon.org
station-unity.org
If you go to any of them, say hi. I also have been tossing around with going to cosplay conventions as wesmasonmedia.com.
My Wife (@Rach) is on here too, she is a wonderful person and the two of us actively work to help our cat survive his nature.
I have three kids who can't be bothered with another social media platform. That may change, but for now that is what it is.

I forgot that the con doesn't start until 9AM (most I've gone to start between 7a-8a) lol
i also realized I forgot glasses for my cosplay today so....fingers crossed the drugstore across the street has some of those cheap reading or fashion glasses I can use as a substitute. :blobcatsweat: #conventions
Idol showcase at AAC today!!! Gonna be performing Forever U & I from Genjitsu no Yohane! :mexcitedmiku: ("Oh I can make that costume in a couple weeks" - me a couple weeks ago :blobfoxlaughsweat: .)
I'll be performing in the Idol Showcase at Another Anime Con next week! :mexcitedmiku: First time doing a dance routine, which has been a tough learning curve. (Also, I think I've found the one thing that makes me as uncomfortable as listening to recordings of myself singing: Watching recordings of myself dancing. :neocat_sweat: ) But I think I've improved a lot, even if I'm by no means good at this yet. Not posting the song/cosplay online yet, making it a small surprise for next Saturday. :akko_wink:
I've finally created the first version of my wesmasonmedia.com gallery for doing cosplay and similar photography.
My workflow is I built a system that will read my photos from my SD card and look for photos with these unique QR codes. Every time it finds one, it updates where it will post the following photos.
So, I take a photo of the QR code, and then take a set with a cosplayer. I then give the card to them to scan with their phone. I can then dump my photos into the system or just keep going. If the laptop with this software is on the internet, people could have their photos as soon as 30 minutes later. Given hotel wifi, I'll tell them at the end of the day.
If this is something you would be interested in for your business, let me know. If I know this is in demand, I'll make more effort to make this a product and not just something I do for myself.
we as #furries should be working to elevate #bipoc voices both within and outside of the fandom regarding peoples lived experiences because they also affect us but they affect others who are a part of these intersectional experiences in a way worse way.
i fear we, as "intersectional "allies"" are falling into this same exact trap of #whiteness with #fursonas in the #furry#fandom. more and more #white people who are affluent purchase fursuits, and we forget that the creation of this key piece of fandom history, the #fursona, is a product of #black#queer history.
we need to make sure this is corrected at an #institutional level. and by the #institutions, i mean the #conventions that we host and the 501c3s that we run to host them.
PopCult this year was amazing! :mexcitedmiku: If anyone on here happens to be in New England (in particular greater Boston) in late August next year, I'd highly recommend going. It's grown since its first year to a good size, but still a nice small con. I feel like I got as much out of it as I do out of large cons, even though it was officially only two days (with a substantive day 0 Friday evening). A few highlights:
-Idol showcase was amazing of course.
-Masquerade was also amazing! A great variety of performances (Tap dancing! A glockenspiel!)
-Someone did a jam session panel which was really cool. They brought a bunch of instruments, had some lead sheets of fun gaming music, and we got to play around (I hopped on bass).
-There were a lot of great panels (several idol themed of course :akko_wink:). Honestly having only 2-4 running at the same time was much less overwhelming than the chaos of choosing between a dozen things every hour in bigger cons.
-The game room was fun, they had Sound Voltex, which I played for the second time ever and started to get used to the level 7 Advanced songs. :nadeshiko_2:
Holy cow the idol showcase at PopCult was incredible. Genuinely one of the best I've ever seen. Every performance was so amazing! For the climactic final performance, the organizers Susume Paradise did Miracle Wave, and yep, their Chika did the cartwheel. :anya_amazed: And the crowd was so hyped up, it was so much fun! :mexcitedmiku: (Yes my voice is hoarse and my arms ache...)
