Just sent email to local #art gallery, that hosts #painting workshops/events/lessons - about how many of us #immunocompromised locals would really like to be able to attend their events & participate in their workshops/painting classes but are unable to because the indoor environment isn't #CovidSafe. I asked if they're planning any safer outdoors events/classes so they're more #inclusive. I hope they will.
Government doesn't give a damn about #disabled or #immunocompromised people but some citizens do. #Citizens run our local organizations, not #eugenics pushing government politicians.
Tell policy-makers NO to dropping masks in #BChealthcare

I have made 3 new, local, offline #CovidSafe friends & am happy about that ☺️ They had same issues with losing friends who weren't willing to take extra covid safety precautions around us and/or exposed themselves as antivax & antimaskers.
It's been very hard for me to meet new covid safe friends offline because I can't attend most public social events - since almost all are not covid safe/indoors & high risk for me.
I wanted to share some good news because there's a lot of bad news, everywhere
The only #LongCovid person who didn't mask up is also still exposing themselves to another #covid infection & doesn't seem to grasp the seriousness of multiple infections - especially when already diagnosed with long covid & suffering many different #medical#health issues due to that.
You seriously can't help some folks who stay ignorant & don't take every #CovidSafety precautions possible - especially after becoming disabled from long covid.
hey @novid@novid what are y'all doing with your school-aged children, how can i effectively find schools with upgraded ventilation, what's keeping you safe at home? I'm immunocompromised and in progress emigrating to NL with kiddo's first school attendance in the fall. but my partner doesn't have kids and neither does anyone in my social network over there... i can run hepa filters and/or Corsi Rosenthal boxes but it feels like there are holes with just that, and masking at home is an option but uncomfy, are there ways to be safe without that? #NoVid#COVIDSafety
Here, three of Australia's leading #COVID experts share their personal #COVIDsafety strategies and reflect on what must happen if we're to blunt the growing health crisis the #pandemic is causing — and prepare for the next one.
This morning at 7:50 a.m., about 43 (ish) people showed up to a theatre in Seattle for a private, Covid cautious screening of Hayao Miyazaki's latest film, The Boy and the Heron.
People took a rapid test and reported results to the organizers before arriving and wore high-quality masks at all times. Folks stayed home if they or anyone in their household felt unwell. Masks and tests were available on site if needed.
Cost was about $13 per ticket after donations from #CovidCautious community members who wanted to help make the event accessible to folks.
CO2 was monitored and never got over 900.
The film was incredible. Knowing there are folks in my community who are willing to wake up early af because they haven't been to the theater in years due to #COVID19 was just as incredible.
Covid safe events aren't just possible, they're desired. Imagine how many people would have attended if it could have been on a Saturday afternoon or evening?
Who here is interested in attending a private Covid Safe movie screening of Miyazakis new film The Boy and the Heron here in Seattle?
I am working on putting one together at a local theatre through the Covid Safety advocacy group Seattle Still Cares. It will be on Sunday December 17th at 8:30 a.m (the only date and time available).
N95/KN95/KF94 Masks required and worn at all times (No Food. Drink allowed with SipValve)
Rapid test taken morning of event and results reported to organizer.
Theatre has upgraded ventilation and UV-C lights
Private screening not open to the public and before the theatre opens for public showings.
Attendees to stay home if themselves or a member of their household is showing any symptoms, regardless of a negative rapid test. (Will not be charged for a ticket)
If you're interested, I have an RSVP form for folks to fill out. Just let me know, and I will loop you in!
6 more people I know in #VictoriaBC have tested positive for #covid in the past week.
This photo's from a friend who tested positive yesterday. She works in a grocery store & wore masks but there's no mandatory masking in the store. She told me she had a cold a few days ago. I advised her to take 2 covid tests; grateful she was open to doing that. A couple of other friends aren't testing at all, despite having symptoms. I can't be around them.
🧵 My mom who has dropped many #CovidPrecautions came to visit last week.
A while ago I shared how worried I was she wouldn't #MaskUp or test because I'm the only one in my immediate family still taking #Covid19 seriously.
Well, I can say that while it wasn't perfect - my moms visit reminded me how important conversations about #COVID with loved ones are - even when it feels like you're wasting your time.
For context, my mom was going to be staying in a hotel. When my siblings and Dad bought her ticket here, they initially asked me to host, but I declined. Mostly due to the fact I wasn't willing to unmask indoors due to #CovidRisk and also because my apartment doesn't have the space.
A few days before the #CovidSafety conversation, my dad had mentioned wildfire smoke in their area, and I used thay conversation to offer (again) to send high quality masks for them to have in the house. He finally said yes. I also took that opportunity to inform him that there is a Covid surge right now (which he didn't know about). He was surprised but did at least acknowledge the risks and dangers. He even said "Your mom could wear one of the masks you send on the plane." Which felt like a lot of progress. I told him I would like it if my mom did wear a mask on the plane.
While my mom was here, she masked up and respected my #CovidProtocols, and I only needed to remind or ask her a couple of times.
Considering my immediate family has totally abandoned masking, social distancing, and regular testing back home, I consider this a huge win for #CovidSafety.
Why? Because it tells me that a lot of people are willing to #MaskUp when asked and take #CovidPrecautions - but they've fallen into the #LetItRip trap and the #CovidIsOver narrative so they've given up precautions.
Is it exhausting, frustrating, and deeply upsetting when people fail to understand that we still need to #MaskUp on their own?
Yes.
Does it mean we stop having these conversations and give up all hope that people who have stopped masking will change?
My niece's school only accepts navy masks so scrambling to find an okay band that sells navy n95s now before she goes there...
If anyone has recommendations for kids masks, I'd gratefully accept 🥺
🧵To this day, I am still somewhat in shock at how much #COVIDdenial within my immediate family has impacted how I interact with them.
Some context: My family all lives back east. My hometown is small and conservative. I've always been the person in my family who is a "rabble rouser" so to speak. I was raised in a catholic conservative household, and although my siblings and I have abandoned both of those things at varying levels much to my parents chagrin, I've always been the most "radical" of us all.
However, when #COVID19 came to the U.S. my family was 100% on board with the science. They masked, they locked down, and they took it very seriously in the beginning. My parents worried for their community members as well as family and friends.
However, things began changing as mask mandates began dropping and the Biden administration began their #vaxxedandrelaxed / #letitrip approach to the pandemic.
My family stopped being as consistent with masking. I visited home in summer of 2021. I took a pcr before I left, masked on the plane, and took a pcr when I arrived.
I walked inside the house with a mask on (I wanted to wait until I got test results) and my mom told me not to worry about it.
I was definitely worried about it. Later in my trip she seemed confused when I put on a mask to go to the store.
It became clear my family and I were diverging on #COVIDsafety.
