I’ve had a chronic stomach condition I’ve dealt with through medication for years before this pandemic started. It all began with the removal of my gall bladder in 2009.
As of a recent call to the pharmacist, I’ve now been told they only have 20 pills out of the year supply I usually get.
The pharmacist said he hasn’t had a shipment in months and that both options of the medication I use are dry out with no word on when new meds may arrive. We’ve simply been told “there is a manufacturer shortage” from all local pharmacists.
This effectively puts me into an immediate dire situation. The loss of this crucial medication will make it impossible for me to work and as a result I will now need to apply for disability.
Why is there no mention of this in the news? Medication shortages are one thing, but to just let people run out of critical meds with no other options is just unreal. We are being abandoned.
The hardest part about having an #EatingDisorder as a man is people not believing that it exists, according to a #VictoriaBC resident.
Simon, who is not using his last name due to stigma and fear of backlash, is recovering from an eating disorder, but to get the support he needs he says that it took years of trying to convince #dietitians that he was struggling.
Today was the day my doctor said mammogram, definitely a signpost of middle age. Two thoughts came to mind: I don’t feel much past 30 - but I’m grateful I’ve been healthy and active enough to age. One thing I’ve learned working at a disability nonprofit is how many ways your body tries to kill you, even if your diagnosis itself is not life-threatening. 1/
4/ Most family doctors, and nearly all urgent care and other primary care clinics (at least outside of Ontario) do not have height adjustable exam beds, accessible scales, or hoists to aid with transfers. One of the most frustrating parts is that often the newest urgent and primary care clinics in BC are the only clinics around that have the height adjustable exam beds, but do not do Pap tests. #bchealth#bcpoli#healthequity#accessibility#healthcare
My friend's Dad, was discharged 2 days ago from hospital after 5 weeks stay, just tested positive for #Covid19 & he's been completely isolated since discharge & only ppl who have been in his home were 2 family members & 2 community health workers - all masked with N95 all the time. My friend believes but can't prove that his Dad got #covid from people inside the hospital.
Michael White says there needs to be more specific #FinancialAssistance for those with the #PostViral condition — range of symptoms affecting some people months after recovering from a #COVID19 infection.
“I feel as though #GovernmentAssistance programs have not evolved to accommodate people like me with #LongCOVID who have no way of knowing when or if they’re going to make a complete recovery,” he said.
“I’m actually shocked,” said Jyothi Jayaraman, who quit her job at a Vancouver hospice, May’s Place, because it stopped providing MAID once it was taken over by #ProvidenceHealth.
Brown says her mother faced #PoorConditions. As she explains, her mother’s tray in the hallway was often pushed out of the way and out of reach, she was rarely taken out of her stretcher to move around, and she wasn’t cleaned as often as she should have been.
A similar story came from a Stage 4 cancer patient who told CityNews she was on one of more than a dozen stretchers that lined the hall..
A member of the #UVic campus community has been diagnosed with active #tuberculosis
UVic said in a #NewsRelease Nov. 8, that the risk of transmission is low and they are working closely with #IslandHealth on protocols to identify, screen and treat those who may have been exposed.
I had to go into the wild maskless public today for banking, replacement ID photos, eyeglass adjustments & signing some legal documents.
I counted a total of 6 masked people - not including me & Mom. Out of the 6 other masked folks - 4 were Asians, 1 black woman & 1 elderly white woman with a walker.
I saw over 100 maskless people today. I consider them, selfish plague spreaders.
