I was listening to my own music last night, which is not unusual, I listen to my own music quite a bit. I like it. But as I listened to it last night, I began to view it for the first time as a body of work. I’m not sure what it was before that moment, but as I played through the almost-hour long collection of my original songs, I was struck with the feeling that this is… a thing, a representation of something, I’m not sure what. I’m usually good with words, but I’m finding it difficult to describe the shift I felt. I know I must continue to add to this body of work, and that the work must stay true to itself. Music for the sake of music, and tunes that I personally enjoy listening to over and over again. I’m not sure if it was because I’d just binged on Ween, or maybe had too much sugar, but it was like an epiphany, and The Dgar Project has taken a new seat in my own consciousness. I am a songwriter, and this year, I’m writing songs.
Here’s the link if you’d like to open up the #Dgar for yourself and see what’s inside.
#listening to the Alice in Chains album Dirt. Back in the 1990s I was really into Nirvana, Pearl Jam and Soundgarden, but I never really gave AiC their due. TBH I think they were a bit subtle for me.
Anyway, I got into AiC in a big way after listening to their full albums on The Grunge podcast a couple of years ago. Those vocal harmonies, wow! Now I see them as one of the most underappreciated bands of the 90s.
It blows my mind that this album was released over 30 years ago. Yet the lyrics to Youth Against Fascism show us that the more things change, the more they stay the same.
"Yeah, the president sucks
He's a war pig fuck
His shit is out of luck
It's the song I hate
It's the song I hate
Another Nazi attack
A skinhead is cracked
My blood is black"

[Verse]
Truth and justice, It's not fair,
Right here, Left there,
Come 'round, Go square,
Either way baby, I don't care.
[Chorus]
I want to hold you tight,
I want to lock you up,
I want to tie you down,
I want to pick you up,
In a flat world, flat world, flat word, it's a flat world.
Flat world, flat world, flat world, it's a flat world.
[Verse]
Hot mustard, cool ice,
Fixed result, roll the dice,
Truth be told, pack of lies,
Raw fish and white rice.
[Chorus]
[Verse]
So close, miles away,
Don't talk, just say,
Bright night, today,
I love you, my babe.
[Chorus]
[Verse]
Truth and justice, it's not fair,
Right here, left there,
Come 'round, go square,
Either way baby, I don't care.
#GreatAlbums1990s – TOP 20 - #Soundgarden - #Superunknown (1993). With its dark afflictions of angst and depression on tracks like “Black Hole Sun” and “Fell on Black Days,” Superunknown was an exorcism of emotion for the masses. Developing their metal-meets-rock lexicon, Soundgarden piledrives through tricky tunings and time signatures (“My Wave” manages to be heavy plus funky in 5/4 time) to prove themselves one of the finest rock bands of the 90s or any other era.
Logged into tumblr for the first time in a while, and while scrolling my dash I come across a transparent png of screws (?) with the tags #grunge and #mine
So who was the greatest band of the #grunge scene? For a long time I would have said Nirvana but I'm now thinking maybe Alice In Chains (for the Layne Staley period).
I suddenly remembered that old grunge canvas I built forever ago. It‘s still super fun to draw on it and get messy!
I want to draw a whole story with it some time, but it‘s probably not going to be a fun one.
last post here 4 awhile cuz im tired of being the only 1 posting, not like anyone looks at these anyway. wish others would participate 🤧 edit: this isnt 'reverse psychology'. i was petty & sad at 0 engagement & nearly left this mag. i regret my wording
What makes a look alternative? Just ask yourself: do you see the day to day average person wearing this? No? Does it catch your eye for being different? Yes? Then it is likely alternative fashion! This category is massive.
