TikTok CEO #ShouZiChew has said the company will take the fight against the new law to the courts, but some experts believe that for the #US#SupremeCourt, national security considerations could outweigh #FreeSpeech protection.
The board notes that in all three cases, #Meta found that the posts didn’t violate its policies around promoting #violence, #HateSpeech or #TerroristContent. The #OversightBoard says it will “consider how Meta should moderate the use of the phrase given the resurgence in its use after October 7, 2023, and controversies around the phrase’s meaning.” #Israel#Gaza
At a weekend rally, Prime Minister Modi claimed the opposition wanted to take Hindus' money and give it to "infiltrators." The opposition Congress Party said he meant Muslims, and lodged an official election complaint.
Today I decided to spend the day working on something unrelated to antisemtism, or the Fediverse.
A friend and I met in person to work on an completely different project, and for a few hours I didn't think about the existential threat to my life, discrimination, or anything else other than the technical work.
That is, until we went outside to get lunch, where I saw this poster, and several others like it.
It's not "pro" anything. It doesn't say anything about Palestinian rights, or a fight for freedom.
Instead, it's purely anti-"Israel".
I couldn't help but in that moment think about the kind of antisemitic posters that existed in 1930s Germany that my own family must have seen in the lead up to the Holocaust.
But I don't live in Germany. I live in Vancouver, Canada, and here they were.
No one was shocked. No one was offended. No one was angry. No one cared.
This i how the Holocaust happened, through demonization and apathy.
'The latest CCDH research takes the form of a case study looking at growth rates for ten influential accounts which are paying for X Premium and have posted anti-Jewish and/or anti-Muslim hate speech since the Israel-Gaza conflict... The CCDH found these accounts were able to boost their reach on X after posting hateful content targeting the war."
Our appeal for the use of #Fediverse services 🐘 and the termination of #X/Twitter at #universities states:
"#Disinformation and #HateSpeech, #cyberbullying and #discrimination are still dominant elements on the media that describe themselves as social. Even legal regulations have not been able to change this. Our elected politicians ... continue to be intimidated and threatened on these platforms, persecution of women is instigated, elections are manipulated and democratic institutions are attacked."

Michael Geist ( @mgeist ), among others, has recommended that #HateSpeech provisions be removed from the proposed #OnlineHarmsAct — many other aspects of the bill are good ideas and relatively uncontroversial, but these changes deserve consideration and debate on their own merits. Seems wise to me.
The email for the CEO of the Scottish Football Association for anyone wishing to let him know, constructively, of their displeasure at recent incidents of sectarianism and violence in Scottish football.

THREAD: I know the adjustment period, where half of our Mastodon posts are about Twitter is long past...but my Globe and Mail story on war crimes published last week highlighted major failures of the social media giants including X & Facebook (what's new?) & their refusal to moderate dangerous speech in non English languages. For non Amharic speaking friends, this thread should be revelatory of the sort of inflammatory material going viral in Ethiopian circles.
If someone compares Jews to Nazis, the group that killed half the Jews in the world, that is Nazi Inversion, and it's antisemitic. Invoking the Nazis or the Holocaust as so called "rhetorical speech" to talk about the actions of Jews is antisemitic.
It's very clear, it's very simple, and it's not stopping anyone from criticizing anything, because the same argument could be made without Nazi Inversion, and if it couldn't be, then it's not criticism at all, but simply words used to attack, intimidate or in some other way harm Jews.
I'm happy to see that other instances are starting to take Nazi Inversion seriously and act on it when their users engage in hate speech. I strongly encourage all instances who want to stop antisemitism to do the same.

The News Broadcasting and Digital Standards Authority also pulled up Aaj Tak and News18 India for stereotyping men from a particular community and spreading communal hatred.
We are posting here the messages from organizations, institutions, NGOs, etc. that have opened a channel on Mastodon and left #X/Twitter. Many of their arguments cite the same points as mentioned in our open letter calling the universities to become active on Mastodon and fediverse servers.
The messages represent a broad consensus among Internet users who want to bring the choice of social media in line with their mission statements. The first of these is the data protection foundation @DS_Stiftung.
It writes about itself: „Acting independently in the field of #DataPrivacy, Stiftung Datenschutz links politics and the public, academics and business. It complements existing organizations and initiatives while liaising closely with German data protection authorities on state and federal levels.“ https://stiftungdatenschutz.org/english
