You may think that QR codes are great for securing your login, or letting users read more online about a product marketed in a news paper ad. But there is a high risk you are creating barriers for people with disabilities, unless you use QR codes correctly.

@krea
The growing abuse of QR codes in malware and payment scams prompts FTC warning
The US Federal Trade Commission has become the latest organization to warn against the growing use of QR codes in scams that attempt to take control of smartphones, make fraudulent charges, or obtain personal information.
Just like it's not a good idea to click random links, it's not a good idea to scan random QR codes. Malicious QR codes certainly exist and have been found in the wild. I think they're calling it quishing now?
Rail firm TransPennine Express has removed all QA codes from its station car parks after fraudsters covered the genuine codes with their own at one station causing a 71 year old to loose £13000 in a scam
@osi That gives me an idea! Could data be streamed at some reasonable bit rate by displaying (transmitter) and continuously scanning (receiver) a rapidly changing sequence of #QR codes? How rapidly could they be changed while maintaining reliable transmission?
Are QR code payments common in the #US and #Eurooe or #Australia? I really like to know, so do tell me.
"For the past several years, the central banks of these countries have been attempting to connect their systems, allowing their residents to use QR payments for cross-border transactions without any fees, generally at better conversion rates than those set by payment processors like Visa and American Express."
@liztai Technically, no #QR "#payments" in #Germany. It is becoming more and more common, though, to have QR codes printed on invoices so your banking app can scan the transfer details (amount, target account), to save you time.
@AudraTran Two sources of profile #QRCode that I would find appropriate are printed materials and kiosk screens.
Showing #QR in a video is basically saying: "Well, you might be watching this on laptop, so you can scan QR with your smartphone." - But I don't quite follow this logic, because one can already open the link in the description, why bother with the phone?
#QRCodes are convenient for those who have physical means to propagate Internet resources.
In that case, it probably makes sense that the #extension assumes a #URI#type, but it should at least say that it is a #QR of a different type. Instead, it tries to #read the QR code as a URI type, which I think is the extension's #issue.
