The United States stated on Tuesday that Israel’s actions in Rafah so far did not constitute a “major ground operation” that would breach President Joe Biden's warnings.
"The killing of at least 45 Palestinians in a humanitarian zone near Rafah has caused anger that reaches far beyond the Middle East. And yet Israel’s offensive is expected to continue, with several Israeli tanks spotted in the centre of Rafah on Tuesday, witnesses told Reuters news agency."
"It comes after the international criminal court sought arrest warrants for Benjamin Netanyahu and defence minister Yoav Gallant, along with three senior Hamas leaders – all for alleged war crimes. …
Netanyahu may describe the airstrike as a tragic accident, but that cuts little ice after more than seven months of constant Israeli attacks that have killed an estimated 35,000 Palestinians and injured about 80,000, with as many as 10,000 more people reported missing, presumed dead."
Days after dozens of Palestinians were killed by Israeli air strikes against displacement camps in Southern Gaza, former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley wrote “Finish them!” on Israeli artillery shells.
Hundreds of thousands of them are at risk. They are sick, living with disabilities, malnourished & traumatized.
The children in Gaza need a ceasefire now to prevent further suffering."
Algeria’s UNSC resolution calls on Israel to halt Rafah offensive immediately
"The draft text demands a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, the release of all captives held by Hamas, & essentially orders Israel to cease military its operations in Rafah:
"... that Israel, the occupying Power, shall immediately halt its military offensive, & any other action in Rafah”.
The US has "shielded Israel by vetoing 3 draft council resolutions".

US-made CBU-39 munitions used in deadly strike on Rafah tent camp, CNN analysis shows noting that its use in a densely populated area is highly risky.
Munitions made in the United States were used in the deadly Israeli strike on a displacement camp in Rafah on Sunday, a CNN analysis of video from the scene and a review by explosive weapons experts has found.
The GBU-39/B Small Diameter Bomb (SDB) is a 250-pound (110 kg) precision-guided glide bomb that is intended to provide aircraft with the ability to carry a higher number of more accurate bombs. Most US Air Force aircraft will be able to carry (using the BRU-61/A rack) a pack of four SDBs in place of a single 2,000-pound (910 kg) bomb. It first entered service in 2006. The Ground Launched Small Diameter Bomb (GLSDB) was later developed to enable the SDB to be launched from a variety of ground launchers and configurations.
It's been confirmed that the bombs dropped on #Rafah are made by #Boeing. Call me crazy but being an accessory in #genocide should destroy your entire business. #Gaza#Palestine#Israel
FFS. Although predictable, given the number of war crimes the US has perpetrated in the past. Weasel words from Biden.
"The Biden administration has said recent Israeli operations and attacks in Gaza’s southern city of Rafah do not constitute a major ground operation that crosses any US red lines, and that it is also closely monitoring a probe into Sunday’s deadly strike on a tent camp it called “tragic”.
It is like clock work, always the same lies: The Israeli military suspects that munitions or some other combustible substance caused a secondary explosion and subsequent fire at a complex housing displaced Gazans in Rafah, following an airstrike aimed at two top Hamas assets.
The incident resulted in the deaths of Palestinian civilians, and an investigation is ongoing.
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) had been tracking Hamas commanders Yassin Rabia and Khaled Najjar prior to the strike on the compound in the Tel Sultan neighborhood in western Rafah on Sunday night. According to #IDF intelligence, the area had been utilized for Hamas activities, including a nearby rocket launcher.
The military clarified that the strike occurred outside the designated “humanitarian zone” in the al-Mawasi region, which is over a kilometer away from the targeted compound. Steps were taken to ensure no civilians, particularly women and children, were present in the Hamas compound at the time of the attack.
Israeli fighter jets employed two small munitions, each carrying a 17-kilogram warhead, to minimize the risk of civilian casualties due to the proximity to the camp for displaced Palestinians.
Initial investigations by the IDF indicate that the two small missiles alone would not have been sufficient to ignite the fire. The probe suggests that ammunition, weapons, or other materials stored in the vicinity may have caused a secondary explosion and the resulting fire. #Rafah algemeiner.com/2024/05/28/idf-…

@david@aral@afouxenidis The most simple background you need is that safe areas were set up as humanitarian zones like this one in Rafah, which is the southern area of Gaza. For 8 months Palestians have been forced out of their cities which have now been bombed and 80% of buildings have been destroyed. A couple nights ago 8 precision guided bombs hit this area where people were sleeping and many were killed and many others were badly injured and burned. Most were children. The bombs were supplied by the US, UK and other countries. The International Court of Justice (ICJ) ordered Israel to pull out of Rafah after finding credible evidence that Israel has engaged in genocide. And now many are asking countries to stop supplying these offensive weapons because they have been used repeatedly to attack journalists, aid workers, doctors and civilians. Look up what happened to World Central Kitchen recently for more context. #Gaza#Rafah
