I think I might be about to start paying for Kagi. I have SearxNG. Am I dumb for thinking about doing this? Is DDG and the like so bad? Is Kagi actually that good?
I use #Fongo mobile and used the in-app purchase to remove ads and get access to a shortcut menu. Worked fine for years. After the latest update ads now overlay the shortcut menu. Is this a bug or enshitification?
Turns out that Fongo has joined the enshitification march and ad removal has changed to a subscription service with no notice, no warning in the update release notes, and no grandfathering existing customers. Are there any decent companies left?
Voice Dream Update. there is an update just released today in the app store that makes the subscription accessible, and allows you to pay with your Apple ID. You can find the button in settings. After tapping on the button, it will put you in an overlay screen that is at the top. To sign up, just swipe down that screen and double tap on the 14 day trial. You will get a pop up confirmation screen like you do when getting an app from the app store. After confirming, your 14 day trial will begin. Please pass this around! #VoiceDream#Subscription#update
“We have people who behave; people are in bad moods, people are feeling sensitive sometimes, but generally, they are much more earnest, and I’ve attributed it to the fact that they’re paying for it, that people value things they pay for so they take better care of the space.” -Nina Lorez Collins
#HP said in January that it hoped and dreamed to make #printing a #subscription. Now, the company has done just that, with the All-In Plan that allows HP customers a limited number of printed pages per month for a monthly fee, with a two-year commitment and potential overage charges, too. #printers
My tea subscription box is shutting down! (Sips By) i really like getting a few new teas to try every month or so, does any one have something that does this that they recommend? #tea#subscription
So, artwork covers most of it - I'm going to share a lot of stuff that I didn't post anywhere, so feel free to check it if you're interested! I'm really hyped for this, and I hope you'll enjoy this idea too 💜
Personally, I am trying to get rid of all 'subscription-based' software solutions, even on mobile devices, unless they offer extremely advantageous costs.
Profit should come from the quality of work done in security, innovation, technology, and efficiency, not from depriving the right to use unless a subscription fee is paid. The innovations should encourage the user to be motivated to continue investing in a solution, not the noose around the neck of the cessation of the right to use the software itself
If I hadn't already, I'd cancel my subscription over this. If you are in NS or PEI, consider cancelling. And file complaints, this borders on fraud. I'll explain.
"I don’t understand the “for the cost of a coffee” kind of subscription drive language. “For the cost of two coffees, you could subscribe to the Halifax Examiner for a month!” #Quote
PS: These authors recognize that not all OA journals charge APCs (#DiamondOA). On the one hand, their data only show a decline in submissions from the south for APC-based OA journals. But their imprecise writing attributes it to OA as such.
