The Academy has announced the #VFX long list of finalists. As always some surprises in what what was and wasn't selected. Another strong year where I need to catch up. #movies#Oscars#AcademyAwards#VisualEffects
The VES announced the forthcoming 2023 class of VES Hall of Fame inductees. with some well known pioneers: Samuel Z. Arkoff; Lawrence W. Butler; Wah Chang; Norman Dawn, ASC; W. Percy Day OBE; Marcel Delgado; Farciot Edouart, ASC; & Edward D. Wood, Jr. Also Tim McGovern was named recipient of the 2023 VES Founders Award. #VFX#movies#VisualEffects#VES
On another note here is a nifty video of director Gareth Edwards talking about his vision. With Dune 2 gone from the 2023 schedule this is my most highly anticipated movie, might even make a trip to IMAX #movies#VFX#VisualEffects#TheCreator#MovieMaking
Anyone have any reports of what Jon Cooper of ILM talked about at the RenderMan Art and Science fair, besides showing the trailer? Recording would be even better.
Still bummed out I didn't get an invite, Pixar being evasive about saying it was small and then it turns out it was a 2000 people event. Still trying to see if someone wants to trade an Elemental walking teapot for an older one
Nice little article in the LA Times about the #VFX work in #Andor. Not very in-depth, but some neat before and after pictures of several environments and locations and how they felt more grounded. #StarWars#VisualEffects
So this happened earlier this week at #SIGGRAPH2023. The Master of masters, the #VFX legend, the one and only Dennis Muren. Now I can (almost) die happy.
It was funny because while I was fumbling with my phone, Dennis was telling me "getting too much glare from the lights"
