I've seen people say that Baldur's Gate 3 was lightning in a bottle, and I think that's totally incorrect. It's pure and simple, Larian Studios did the work. The work they did on their previous games (Divinity: OS 1 & 2) built the foundation that allowed them to create BG3.
Larian is NOT a typical AAA dev... I still consider them indie, despite their size. Indie simply means that they do not have to answer to a publisher. While this was D&D, they simply purchased the rights and Hasbro did not have any input in the creative process.
Larian works on projects they love. They create what they want to create. They seek community feedback after a certain point, but ultimately, they are in charge. They do not focus on monetization schemes or addictive mechanics... they just make good games. They earned this. It isn't lightning in a bottle... it's math. #bg3#baldursgate3#larianstudios#gamedev

I think Larian Studios made a fantastic decision by choosing not to place Baldur's Gate III on Game Pass. As they mentioned, it is a big game, and it deserves a fair price.
I am tired of constantly paying for subscriptions, battle passes, DLCs, and season passes. It would be nice to pay for a game and not have to worry about additional costs. I hope that more studios adopt this philosophy in the future.

I wonder how many people are either trying #dungeonsanddragons for the first time or returning to it after an absence because of the amazing storytelling in #baldursgate3. Partner and I converted our characters, will be playing a continuation of their stories. #dnd#larianstudios
I appreciate #larianstudios, I really do, but the Orin camp scene is unfair, unfun, and downright horrible to play.
I understand the game has mature themes, I do. But up until that scene, the violence had boundaries. So sailing past those boundaries to drop "child gurgling with throat cut" onto the players through no mistake of their own was both unfun and poorly written. It felt like an edgelord guest DM took over and was trying to trigger players' anxieties, not create a fun experience.
Had I got the "traumatized cat murdered and turned into soup" option that offered no way to prevent the outcome, I'd have quit the game entirely. Sincerely shame on you to whoever wrote Orin's #edgelord bullshit scenes for disrespecting the implicit session zero the game up until that point honored.
Playing #bg3 feels like playing #Skyrim... Not because they are similar... But because you get to see a whole generation discover a dev you've loved for a long time. #larianstudios
