Does anyone know if there exists such a thing as a recessed USB receptacle that can fit in a (US) 1 gang electrical box, that would allow me to flush-mount a USB-powered device, so that the cord would just be hidden in back going into the receptacle? The application is that there’s already a box with 110V power to it, where I want to do this. #DIY#HomeImprovement#LazyWeb#LazyMastodon
Dear #lazyweb. When your task is to find a basic system to handle tickets (not many and only a handful of people handling them) and you want to make it a bit more future-proof so you can naturally add more features like knowledge sharing and tracking changes to content, if needed.
Do you think it's OK to (ab)use the issue system of Gitlab or Gitea/Forgejo instead of introducing a dedicated ticket system?
What affordable pen would you recommend for person enjoying Lamy Safari with a fine (F) nib and Pelican 6001 inks for two years? I am looking for something to become my secondary workhorse pen, to stay at home or to have it to always stay ready for travel :)
I like F and EF nibs, because those make it a little bit easier to find proper paper for in comfortable formfactor. I'd also appreciate ink reccomendation as well :)
Is there any TLD registry (not registrar) and accompanying domain name extension (.com, .net and so on) out there that’s owned by a small/independent, i.e. trustworthy business? Feels like they’re all owned by some creepy mega-corp.
.blog owned by Automattic is a decent example, though they’re not exactly very indie anymore, and have come under strong scrutiny of late. I wonder if there are even better alternatives.
Wanted: A simple smart door lock for euro cylinder that works with NFC/RFID. Where you press a LEARN button on the lock, hold your (credit) card or phone with NFC/RFID next to it and done. No app, no cloud, just a card or phone. Does that exist? #lazyweb
#LazyWeb is there a quick 'reply to this message' key in #Discord? I can applications key and find it that way but that feels longer than it should. Probably missing the obvious. Thanks.
Sometimes when I feel down I really want a delightful dessert. Ice cream is my favorite, but I'm also a big fan of pastries.
So, Seattle, I have a question! What's your favorite fancy or quirky little treat from a small shop in Seattle that is Way Too Tasty to be real? It could be dessert, or anything else. What's your favorite secret little nook? :ablobfoxbongo:
I have some experience with #Linux on servers, but not on desktops. Now I've ordered my first non-mac PC and am not sure which distro I should use. I'd like a minimal one to not have apps that I won't use and to have a chance to learn everything from the get-go.
#NixOS intrigues me, but I'm not sure if it is too advanced to start with.
What's the easiest way of drawing pixels on the screen interactively using rust? A quick search reveals a lot of different crates and not knowing almost anything about the language it's very hard for me to judge the relative merits of each one.
#lazyweb: for #FireFox or #Safari users (leaning former despite being enmeshed in Apple; it's more configurable, has a wider/deeper extension ecosystem) - what are your faves for the following?
Forcing sites into dark mode (eg "Hacker Vision" in Chrome)
Tab groups (like Chrome's native)
JS/image/etc blocking (like the now defunct ScriptSafe) - uMatrix?
Dear #lazyweb, is there a good #MediaWiki workflow for synchronizing the content of an article with a Markdown (or perhaps reST) file? I would like this to be truly bidirectional, so edits to the article show up in the file and vice-versa.
I enjoy having a personal wiki, but darn if "open my text editor (on the same system) and plop down a link" wouldn't be more convenient as a general rule.
So, #lazyWeb - I have some work travel next week, and realized I likely would like to protect myself from hotel wifi. Recommendations for a reputable VPN? Willing to set something up on a cloud VM if needed.
I’m off work next week and planning to read some Ursula K Le Guin, whose works I’ve unconscionably omitted from my reading until being obliquely recommended “Vaster Than Empires And More Slow” recently. Having done that, where should I start? #LazyWeb#RecommendationsPlease
Dear #lazyweb I'm currently staying in a hospital (nothing serious) and the Wi-Fi is odd: I can browse the web just fine except for Mastodon. I get a timeout error. This occurs in both the app (Tusky) and the browser. My instance is social.coop. I'm using Chrome on Android.
If it helps. I've noticed that some ads on Web pages also don't load. I'm assuming it's how they have their Wi-Fi/router configured?
This isn't critical, just massively interesting...
Help me #LazyWeb. I want to insert something into my #OrgMode documents that will resolve to the current date (ISO8601) when I call org-latex-export-to-pdf—i.e. it will give the PDF document a visible last-edited date. I have some LaTeX that does this in LyX, but I haven't got Org to pass it through…
