Realized I am not geeky enough to own a light saber or a Star Wars shirt. 🤔

ai6yr,

Graflex camera flash handle look familiar?

I’ve been obsessed with lightsaber replicas and I’ve been modifying mine to make it more movie accurate:

  1. Sanded it to make it less shiny
  2. Painted the inner tube black
  3. Added The Force Awakens clamp plate to hide the Graflex logo
  4. Replaced the glass eye with a more accurate one.
  5. Replaced the “beer tab” with a flat one
  6. Cut and assembled my own plastic t-tracks to fix a weird gap between the clamp

Help…

Sound designer Ben Burtt is responsible for some of the most iconic sounds in film. Most notably in the Star Wars franchise. This includes R2-D2’s voice, Darth Vader’s breathing, blasters, and, of course, the lightsaber.

This lightsaber clip has been shared all over the web. Consequently I don’t know the source. But it’s fascinating.

More on Ben:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ben_Burtt

Clips of lightsaber battles mixed with Ben being interviewed in a sound studio with a computer he’s using to showcase the source sounds. Another clip shows a young Ben waving around a long microphone in front of a speaker while watching a lightsaber battle from Star Wars, working on the original film in the seventies.

The Al-Naslaa Rock dates back more than 4,000 years ago
Darth Vader era. Because that's clearly a remnant by the untrained hands of a Padawan.

A loooooong time ago, I consulted folks here about what a "real " could be, and I finally got a great answer from a physicist friend of mine: a Maxwell's demon. I don't have a great name for it yet, so in the WIP, they're "Maxwell swords," but anyway. I am proud to the point of smugness that instead of inventing a sci-fi appearance for them whole cloth, I'm saying they're surrounded by a heat haze and you can smell their heat. It's so sensory. I love it.

They stood opposite each other in the hold of an old Imperial hauler, ditched in the jungle thirty years earlier after the second Death Star fell and the Empire with it. But there were still Sith and Jedi. The force made that inevitable.

A while ago a bought a toy lightsaber from LGT. On of the options is you choose which "soundboard" you want, to control the sound effects and light effects. I chose LGT's "Xeno3" soundboard. Well, I quickly learned that doing things like changing the volume or blade color on a Xeno3 lightsaber is based around holding the button for a certain number of LED blinks. BUT THIS MODEL DOESN'T HAVE AN LED, making it very difficult to use. So I drilled a hole and added one.

Gotta say a de-aged Hayden Christensen in this re-edited Kenobi flashback scene looks pretty good. Don't know if they used deepfake tech or what.
