The museum occupies the control tower and surrounding area of what was once RAF Dumfries, two miles north-east of the centre of Dumfries. One of my favorite museums in the world is the Villa Giulia in Rome. It houses the National Etruscan Museum. It falls outside most quick tour routes, and it is a lovely, peaceful, elegant museum with a very rich collection.
