Another day, another unflattering portrait of a public figure, and this time, the Streisand effect is in play too. TIME magazine reports on Australia's wealthiest person, Gina Rinehart, and her attempts to get a painting of her removed from the National Gallery of Australia. The portrait by Vincent Namatjira, an Aboriginal Australian artist, is part of a series in which he uses humor and exaggerated features to portray the rich. “People don’t have to like my paintings, but I hope they take the time to look and think, ‘why has this Aboriginal bloke painted these powerful people? What is he trying to say?’” he said in a statement shared with TIME. The gallery, to which Rinehart is a donor, is not backing down, saying it “welcomes the public having a dialogue on our collection and displays.”

“The theft of a Bronze Age gold torc and bracelet from a UK institution has sparked calls for greater government investment in the museum sector.
Police are yet to make arrests and are appealing for information to track down two thieves who broke into the Ely Museum, Cambridgeshire, on 7 May and escaped on electric scooters.
With gold prices hitting a record high in recent months experts are worried that the precious artefacts, worth £220,000 in their current form, might be melted down for their scrap metal value.”

I love this rather wonderful creature which features on the fireplace in the boardroom of the former Fairfield Shipbuilding and Engineering Company on Govan Road in Glasgow. It's now home to the Fairfield Heritage Museum.

After the capture of Yugoslavia in April of 1941, the #medieval#Smederevo#Fortress was designated as the storehouse for the captured equipment, ammunition, weapons and petrol of the Royal Yugoslav Army, which was to be used in the attack on the USSR. 🔽
St Mungo Museum of Religious Life and Art, built in 1993 close to Glasgow Cathedral and on the site of the long-lost Glasgow Castle. The Arte Museum in Dubai has an interactive exhibition that brings sketches to life. Visitor’s drawings are fed into a machine that digitizes them and animates them in a room-sized digital safari. They also fill the room with the scent of wet soil to amplify the experience.
