#NorthYorkshire Council to phase out #apostrophe use on #streetsigns To Avoid #Database Problems
The North Yorkshire Council in England announced it will ban apostrophes on street signs as it can affect geographical databases. Resident Anne Keywood told the BBC that she urged the authority to retain apostrophes, saying: "If you start losing things like that then everything goes downhill doesn't it?" https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-england-york-north-yorkshire-68942321
Our #Roadtrek trip up to the #NorthYorkshireCoast last week was a bit wet and windy But the dogs and us thoroughly enjoyed it. The sun did come out briefly too.
I saw a 1971 report from the #BBC that mentioned this #Ripon tradition might end. At that time the tradition dating back to 886 was thought to be dying out. One man blew the horn every night at 9 PM, 365 days a year. It looks as if the tradition survives at least until this article of 2021. #NorthYorkshire#yorkshire
Taken in 2022, my mood photo (very Harry Potterish) was taken on the platform of the pretty-much-deserted Lealholm station on the North Yorks Moors line that terminates at Whitby. I had done a walk of nearly 10 miles and stopped at a bench seat to open a flask of coffee and munch on a cheese bap (bread roll or bread bun, depending on your origin). Perfect day for trekking.
Evening all I hope you've had a good day today ? Calling it a night, been a long day. I've been reviewing this year. thankfully it was better than last (not difficult since I've not had a heart attack this year, to date) But i was looking how my photos have changed to previous years. Are they better or worse? I'm not sure. Some I like, others I don't as much. I probably don't feel as comfortable as I used to do behind a camera though wish I knew why!
Anyway, I hope my enthusiasm will come back along with a better sense of composition, thats my new years wish anyway!
In the latest of our Ten for Nature series, Robert Francis explains that the plants and animals were challenged by a lengthy summer drought, but the autumn rains brougt forth a bounty of berries
Evening all, I hope you've had a good week? I finally decided to go out and see if i could get some sunset shots. Though the sunset itself didn't really happen the light before it was really nice. This scene caught my eye, esp the light on the middle rock and the warm light over the valley. In the end I got back home a little happier! #landscape#landscapephotography#photography#photo#yorkshire#northyorkshire#england#sunset
