This is going to be my last post on Mastodon now. I don't have time for it anymore and there's never much interraction anyway so rather just call it a day. Thanks all for your support over the time I've been on here and wish you all the very best for the future. I will still be on X of course if you want to catch up.
Goodnight all and very best wishes

I'm on BBC Radio Leeds this morning (Thu 23) talking about Wakefield Artwalk.

I'll be on around 11:40am (BST) chatting to Steve Jordan, who's sitting in for the lovely Gayle Lofthouse.

As I was saying a couple of days ago, if the pattern holds of running against the incumbent PM, at the general election @CountBinface will be running in the Richmond and Northallerton constituency.

I wonder what policies the Count can come up with for North Yorkshire. Making the two National Parks join up at Great Langton, perhaps? (-:

North Council to phase out use on street signs

"A local authority has announced it will ban apostrophes on street signs to avoid problems with computer systems."

Catch them while you can; ghost signs don't last forever.

Sadly, when John Connell headed out to photograph this multi-layered palimpsest in Wakefield, it was gone, lost to aggresive cleaning of the brick between 2016–23.

My guess is that this was an off licence, but maybe someone with local knowledge might remember?

Morning all. It’s today. Please spread the love for these terrific endangered birds. Born in a Pennine village next to the moors, the distinctive curlew cry is an evocative sound of my childhood. If you’re out for a walk on the moors keep your dog on a lead. Curlews may be nesting. xx

8 Apr 1550: Joan Harkey former Prioress of nuns at Ellerton makes her will

She'd surrendered the house on 18 Aug 1536. Touchingly she left 12d each to her former consoeurs at Ellerton

The light nights are greatly appreciated now. The lighting on our local church was beautiful tonight. Just a quick shot on my way home…

Morning all. I snapped this mill chimney in North Yorkshire the other day and in my mind it became a road to the sky. Have a good Good Friday. xx

Our 4th Alice Thornton's Books project blog post is now up. Patricia Phillippy offers an insight into Thornton's connections with women who were North American sojourners and on how was influencing societal thought (and Thornton's thinking) in 17thC . https://thornton.kdl.kcl.ac.uk/posts/blog/2024-03-21-thornton-and-north-america/ @histodons @histodon @litodons @earlymodern

Yorkshire meets Wales

For those who have never come across them, ‘Uncle Mort' (author Peter Tinniswood) is hillarious. In this series (of 15 minute programs), he tours Wales.

A bit of a sunset this evening. The day has been dull and murky and damp for most of it so it was a surprise to see the yellow round thing in the sky! I do like this spot to shoot though :)

Language question; is it common in yorkshire dialects to use 'us' for singular? We've got that trick in the netherlands with people living in brabent.

ON Saturday we finally got some half decent weather! It was cold (about -3) so left home about 5.30 to capture this. I think it was worth it. I do like this spot! Hope you've had a good day today ?
