To the people who run a PiHole in their home network:

Any bad effects on some websites? Any apps on your Android / iOS devices not working?
Anyone got rid with Amazon prime in movie ads with it?

I'm so annoyed of paying for Amazon prime and been forced to watch stupid constantly repeating advertisements. Next step canceling this shit

Trying to create custom reports via but for some reason, PiHole DB doesn't have hostnames, it has IP addresses, which is not helpful for what I'm looking for.

Setting up a temp VM so I can install Technitium and see what it's capable of.

I just want to be able to get a daily report of specific devices on my network and see what they are doing; I want to manipulate the view of the data and bend it to my will lol.

edit: .icu is doch domain

Switched to use DHCP on my and now I can see where all this traffic is coming from, finally.

PiHole was my first install and I was a little weary of making big changes then - now I'm trying out all kinds of dangerous things. 🤓

Through some network monitoring and research, I've discovered a dangerous website that are visiting, watchpeopledie(.)tv .

My kids haven't discovered it, but I have blocked it on my personal .

Parents, stay vigilant. This isn't an "app" that I've found, so controlling app installs won't stop it; it's a website they're visiting in their phone's web browser.

It's exactly what it sounds like, graphic pictures and videos of murders, suicides, etc.

A screenshot of the front page of "Watch People Die". Some of the note-able topics are: - 10 Suicide Methods At Once - Man masturbating next to a woman on the bus ends up dead - British base jumper says "Three, two, one, see ya!" before jumping off building and dying after his parachute doesn't open. Thailand, 28 January 2024 - Drunk man throws grenade at wife during argument
A screenshot from a PiHole showing various DNS requests that were blocked and allowed. I have circled the domain "i.watchpeople.tv" in red. It was new and unfamiliar to me, which is what triggered the investigation.

having run a for the last few days I think it's a bit concerning that on average 20% of our network traffic can be filtered out with no noticeable problems.

that is, 20% of DNS requests coming from our computers or phones. we don't even have a smart TV or anything. This is just normal network traffic of a bit surfing and some streaming.

kyonshi, to bbs
@kyonshi@dice.camp avatar

Today I decided to flatten my again and redo the whole configuration. I also decided to get running on the rpi.

Now the bbs doesn't want to start anymore but I have my own DNS server.

You win some you lose some.

But no seriously, the only issue with synchronet is that doesn't want to start it and it's a bit maddening because every time I take care of one problem a new error pops up.

Merci !

#PiHole serves me really great for blocking DNS queries related to advertisement, tracking and unwanted or malicious hosts.

If I use the internet alone the block rate is about 0,1% because I only use #FOSS software, #uBlock and #PrivacyBadger.

But if someone else with a "normal" phone is using the internet, too, PiHole has to block 8,1% of all queries!

I am still responsible for most of the traffic so just image the percentage if all clients were normal non-FOSS tracking devices!

Trying out the and the first thing I noticed is the massive amount of telemetry it generates and gets blocked by my . A blocked request every 30 seconds. No way to disable. It is a shame, this browser has some nice features and workspaces with profiles come close to multi-container tabs in Firefox.

@viktor . I use it not only to block ads and malware network wide, but to place content restrictions on all my kids' devices. I've added lists for social media, pornography, gambling, etc. that only apply to my childrens' devices. When there's no school the next day, re-enabling YouTube is as easy as hitting a toggle in the interface.
