I am having trouble searching for this so maybe some folks can help: I have a on my home network and I was trying to set up some local AAAA records for my machines. My first instinct was to use the fe80 addresses b/c I know they are MAC-based and stay the same. However ssh does not like connecting to Link-Local IPv6 by domain, only literal IPs with %eth0 on the end. Are the Global addresses my systems got stable enough to map DNS at or do I need to make them static somehow?

YouTube being aggressive against ad blockers is making me want to never watch another ad from them again, I'm going over and above to make sure ads don't appear on any device that uses YouTube. They are motivating me to invest in this weird war they are fighting.

@andycarolan https://social.lol/@andycarolan/111250664556522494

michaelgraaf,

@selzero @andycarolan Can anyone report what YouTube does if the ad-block happens in the network (e.g. ) rather than the end-user device?

ithoughtisawa2,

@michaelgraaf @selzero @andycarolan The aggressiveness seems to only be in Chrome. Work makes me use Chrome and I get that ad blocker message, but in Firefox (on the same machine) I don't., and I don't see ads. I have on the network and use and in both browsers.

Lil_VampireCJ, to random

Welp, looks like Ublock Origin is over... YT now detects it and harasses your ass to try & give up your safety/comfort just so they can throw malicious ads down your throat.

And no, I won't stop using my adblocker as it keeps me safe, comfortable and secure from the tones of malicious/toxic ads YT tries to expose you to.

Hopefully UBlock manage to find a patch that stops YT from doing this if its still possible.

kkarhan,
@kkarhan@mstdn.social avatar

@Lil_VampireCJ That's gonna be hard, because there are multiple layers and any of them if not multiple ones could be causing this.

Mind you this ain't your regular -like that just redirects requests to , but literally reverse- even adresses and blocks them as well...

I am still trying to set up a Pi-hole for me. One option is obviously a RPI, but for a simple DNS resolve the 4B is way too overpowered and therefore overpriced imo.
I already found the NanoPi NEO3-LTS and NanoPi R2C Plus very fitting, although I don't like the limited or just nonexistent software support.
Any recommendations for a small, cheap, power efficient SBC with at least Gigabit Ethernet, a SD-Card slot and USB-C for power?

Got this little fellow, an Argon One M.2 the other day, and looking to set up a few services on my Lan. Still waiting for a few things to arrive. Intrigued by but have zero knowledge about . I played around a little on an old 3 over the weekend just to familiarise myself a bit, but after installing a few docker apps the whole thing froze. I've used for years, I'm just a regular user, not a Dev or sysadmin, but projects like this can be fun.

@nyx I already have my eye on cloudflare tunnel, , , , and a few others. I'll definitely give nextcloud a look, but I'm not sure if it's something I actually need.
This project is more about fun than actual need. My understanding of everything is definitely limited, but I'll hopefully figure things out somewhat.
Maybe some note taking thingy too, I could have used one getting into this little project 😃

If we ignore the notion whether it should, what would make the Fediverse or Mastodon easier to approach for the majority of people? Getting rid of tech talk around the platform? Better, world class user interface? Somehow dismantling the whole domain and server structure? Just calling it Mastodon as one service instead of a Mastodon instance with domain, obfuscating it somehow? Just focusing on mastodon.social and ignore the rest? Acting as centralized service on the outside? Making it seamless via features and improvements? Is there any silver bullet?

I am not against the current state of things, on the contrary. Just curious and trying to think outside this box… of instances and other techy stuff. Could it even be easier to comprehend, or do we just have to continue educating people on the matter?

Every time a new Raspberry Pi is released, there are mutterings around thermal control of the new board.

This time around, with the release of Raspberry , we’re introducing two new official hardware solutions for cooling, priced at $5 and $10 respectively.

    @shibashecurity I've been thinking of doing this too. My works great, but the lack of management required to use is making me wonder if running it is still worth it.
    Every once in a while I find a site that just wont work properly without disabling the pihole (at least for the initial query/connection). How do you handle that situation with NextDNS?
    How do you handle smart lights and plugs where you can't install the client?

    Good question, website!

    1. Faster page loading
    2. Content doesn't get obscured
    3. Not getting tracked by data brokers
    4. Not getting infected by ransomware via vulnerable ad networks
    5. Forcing publishers to pursue sustainable revenue streams instead of racing to the click-bait bottom
    islamicaudiobooks,
    @islamicaudiobooks@mastodon.social avatar

    @limepeep @thomasfuchs It could be argued that 3rd party are by their very nature, unethical.

    If website owners agree to display ads which they have no control over and which could be promoting the exact opposite of their values, doesn't that mean that they care about $$ more than the products/causes the ads are promoting?

    Or do the ad platforms let content creators choose what ad topics and keywords to disallow?

    Today is yet another reminder that DNS is not, freaking, decentralized. A service I use has now gone offline, most likely through no fault of its owners, because a DNS provider took issue to what they were doing. Same can happen to any Mastodon instance, and there’s nothing we can do about it.

    FreakyFwoof,
