One thing I didn't mention is that, like many other prey animals, they are extremely good at hiding health problems. You've heard how the jackals will separate the weak or sick member from the herd; prey animals evolve to disguise being sick or weak.
#Lena, who I've written about, suddenly showed signs of #pain yesterday - rapid #breathing, hunched #posture, little interest in #food. I couldn't find anyone who would look at her yesterday, but had her at our #vet this morning. It turns out the delay didn't change anything.
She was in congestive #heart failure. Clearly this is something that doesn't happen overnight, but she seemed literally 100% fine the day before. She was given hours, not days, by the vet.
