The commission for Paul’s first #RibbonShirt is all done, save a thread trim and wash. My only regret is that I haven’t a mannequin on which to display it for photos.
Like all Elfkin creations, this shirt is made from a custom pattern drafted exactly to Paul’s measurements and was assembled to classic #couture standards. #sewing#art
I made a bunch of little soft clutch/glasses cases for an upcoming maker space silent auction, using fun prints from the public scrap bin. Pleased with the results!
My spouse has a bunch of workshops coming this summer covering a lot of cool DIY sewing skills!
Patternmaking, design, and sewing classes for a bunch of skill and price levels! You should definitely come take some! Ruby is a great teacher and will help you look good and have fun doing it!
Sewing! I made a pen case for my two favorite fountain pens. I have ideas on how to improve this: deeper pocket, interfacing, water resistant shell, snap or button or a more shaped flap. #Sewing#FountainPen#PenCase
So here’s something that I’ve never seen before in all my years of #sewing… a knot tied in the middle of a spool of thread (Tire silk in this instance). It was obviously to join two threads during manufacture, same as one would using the tie-on method to thread a serger.
Luckily I spotted it before it could make itself an ugly part of the button holes that I was stitching.
Definitely not something I expect in $6 for 100m premium silk thread. 🤨
It's only taken 5 months but I finally finished my first sewing project in this year's theme.
My fist attempt to fit distressed sci-fi into work wear is what I call Skywalker chic. It's made from a viscose cotton blend (and a black linen waist band) and so is breathable and the pleats allow a more comfortable air barrier while also evoking jedi robes.
Design for the sands of Tatooine and the poorly climate controlled office.
Scenes from patterning a 60s-style dress. It will have princess seams front and back, center back closure with jewel collar, and small flare at the hem. #sewing#handmade
#VisibleMending is not only for #clothes. This #colourful#handbag with abstract roses helped me against dark winter days. Suddenly I discovered this terrible hole and decided to mend it. It was not easy to find the fabric (more in the Alt texts) but I saved my handbag! 😊 And now it's a unique piece of individual design! @visiblemending@sewing
I am thinking of making my next Tilly and the Buttons Indigo dress with just the sleeve from the flounce sleeve, leaving off the flounce. So not a long sleeve, and not a short one but half way between the both. Has anyone done this? I know if I asked before the bird site imploded I would get a response from loads of people, including Tilly's team so I am hopeful I will get some kind of useful response here!
One of several projects I have going… awnings for my tiny windows to block the brutal sunshine in the summer! I’ve gathered the fabric, hooks and all, hand-sewing rather than using the machine. My plan is to make 4 total. I assembled TP rolls to create “rods” and mocked up a paper POC. First fabric shade is finished and I’m working on the 2nd. Mounting each to the house with French cleats is next. It’s been a super fun process! #tinyHouse#windows#makeYourOwnShade#maker#handmade#sewing
The great 2024 #decluttering has turned up this. It’s a washable colouring in map thingy. I’m very tempted to turn it into a small quilt. Maybe with flags around the outside as a border? Could maybe colour in the critters with embroidery? 🤔
