I just do not get it. You can make multiple free #ProtonMail accounts, but if you install the mail app you can literally only add one free account to it. They support IMAP but you have to install this dumb “bridge” app on your desktop to facilitate it. Too much of a hassle to use this. Single account in the app is legit #Evernote-level bullshit.
@dhry They are not a typical email service. @protonmail can’t read your mail even if they wanted to, even while stored on their servers. The bridge app decrypts mail for your IMAP client.
As for their free account limits: outfits like #Skiff have tried and failed to give away more while remaining solvent.
If @protonmail can’t meet your needs with your zero budget, take a closer look at what you need and what it’s worth to you.
There need to be portability laws for email addresses. You know how cell phone companies are legally required to transfer your phone number if you ask? That, but for email. I'd have a much worse time losing my email address than my phone number.
Existing #Skiff users can't switch to #Tuta because forwarding isn't possible: if you add a rule for forwarding from Skiff to Tuta you never get the verification eMail(s).
Sto guardando come fare email alias su Proton (cioè SimpleLogin) e, mamma mia era cosi facile su Skiff. Dovevo solo creare un alias domain (@qualcosa.maskmy.id o @ qualcosa.mailbox.zip ) e potevo inventare email al momento senza dover creare l'alias a mano ogni volta dall'app. Tutto arrivava a quel mio dominio alias.
@xylya visto !
É una notizia terribile, avevo puntato tutto su #skiff e migrato tutte le mie cose.
Mi toccherà ricominciare daccapo, e soprattutto, dare soldi a #Tuta . #Tuta é un ottimo servizio, ma nella versione free il search è farlocco. Questa limitazione per me è inaccettabile, ma allo stesso tempo, non voglio sganciargli 36€ l'anno.
Questo è il dilemma.
Skiff got bought up by Notion.
This means that all skiff users need to find a new platform.
Notion does not even offer an email service, so we just lost a big player in the privacy community, very sad that they made this decision. I have considered switching to something like #tuta or #proton.
From what i have seen we have 6 months to migrate #skiff#notion https://skiff.com
Skiff Privacy has been acquired, will be shutting down
Skiff has “joined” (read: been acquired) by Notion.
Skiff privacy is (was?) an #opensource and #privacy friendly product suite, featuring email, pages, drive and calendar.
According to their blog post and an email mirror that blog post, Skiff will be “sunsetting” in the next 6 months. In plainspeak, in about 6 months (no definitive date as of writing this post) Skiff’s services will no longer work. Users will not be automatically migrated to Notion.
Users must migrate/download their data, including migrating skiff domains and redirecting emails. From what I currently understand, email aliases must be handled by hand - so the redirect only works for the primary address.
