For those whose computers won’t let them use , please do consider blocking advertisers earlier than inside the browser. Try this hosts file, or better: set these to block on your internet router’s firewall.

JesusDQ,
@JesusDQ@mastodon.social avatar

@kimby
Así es. Si quieres desengancharte son todo ventajas! 😜

https://f-droid.org/es/packages/superfreeze.tool.android/

Clean way to open / #X to cross post links, without having to stumble upon any Tweet or without seeing the timeline:

  • Origin
  • Element Picker: highlight and click the border between side menu and timeline
  • Click Create
  • Now when you open Twitter it will always be plain white
  • You can open the Compose URL (/compose/post), cross post and begone.

Empty, no timeline in sight.

If the Timeline appears again someday, just repeat the process to pick up the new CSS classes.

A screenshot of Twitter / X showing the timeline highlighted in red and a green circle in the border between the side menus and the timeline.
A screenshot of uBlock Origin dialog showing some cryptic CSS class names and a green arrow pointing to a "Create" blue button
A screenshot of Twitter / X showing the compose Tweet window and in the background it's just white, no Twitter timeline content.

alfredbaudisch,
@alfredbaudisch@mastodon.gamedev.place avatar

It's possible to go further and hide the menu as well, thus hiding Notification numbers, having a completely white screen when posting.

But then the only way to access the compose modal is via the direct URL: /compose/post

Beautiful!

Now my / #X account is just a link dump account - for those like me who still want to show their followers from there with their content (4k followers for me) but do not want to interact at all with the toxic timeline/baits/bots/w.e.

A screenshot of Twitter / X "Compose" modal with a fully white screen on the background The address bar URL reads https://twitter.com/compose/post

How come most social-media "content" now comes down to things like this?

"THIS CHANGES EVERYTHING! IT IS GOING TO DISRUPT SOCIAL MEDIA FOREVER! 🚨🤯 Open the thread to have your mind blown with these new changes 👇🧵"

🤮 🤢 This is the kind of engagement bait that I want to erase forever from my life.

It's the kind of thing that my uBlock hack/filter allows hiding.

mastodon.xyz##.status-card.expanded .status-card__title:style(-webkit-line-clamp:4 !important)

Did not know that uBlock has a "disable large media" option.

When enabled it tries to block any media larger than a specified size (until you click on said media)

Less data to load means a faster and cheaper internet 😄

serves me really great for blocking DNS queries related to advertisement, tracking and unwanted or malicious hosts.

If I use the internet alone the block rate is about 0,1% because I only use software, and .

But if someone else with a "normal" phone is using the internet, too, PiHole has to block 8,1% of all queries!

I am still responsible for most of the traffic so just image the percentage if all clients were normal non-FOSS tracking devices!

Consider: implementation that uses the same filter lists but works as a streaming HTML parser/serializer.

Hmm... actually, @alcinnz how easy would it be to use your Haskell CSS selector implementation with a lazy larser to implement this? 🤔

alcinnz,
@alcinnz@floss.social avatar

@csepp I'm not entirely sure what's being asked, but Haskell Stylist should be efficient at determining which streamed elements match which selectors! That's what its designed to do!
