Inspired by #PrivacyBadger logo. I want to draw it in slightly different style but failed during working on this :/ At least I kept a bit of Privacy Badger vibe.
Yesterday, at home, I was able to use #Vivaldi 's built-in adblocker fine on Youtube. Come in to the office today, and I had to shut it off because videos are inaccessible. #UBlockOrigin and #PrivacyBadger by #EFF work just fine though.
I'd love to not have to use other extensions, but looks like we're not quite there at the moment.
I appreciate wanting to measure engagement, but I’m pretty fed up with links in newsletters being email tracking links with redirects. I’d say 80% of links I would otherwise find useful, are now utterly useless, unless I agree to being tracked. Which I do not.
@haruki_zaemon I haven’t fully converted to @protonmail but I do use their #VPN religiously with the #NetShield on, and that supposedly blocks a lot of email trackers. I also use #AdGuard on my home router, and #uBlockOrgin & #PrivacyBadger in #Firefox private mode. If they’re getting my info they’re gonna have to work for it.
"After quizzing these companies about data practices, I learned that most are sharing what’s happening in my home with Amazon, too. Our data is the price of entry for devices that want to integrate with Alexa. Amazon’s not only eavesdropping — it’s tracking everything happening in your home."
#GeoffreyAFowler, 'Alexa has been eavesdropping on you this whole time'
There is a regrettable #jumpFromTheFrypan (and into the fire)-#tinkeringAtTheEdges, vibe to most of the solutions proposed in #GeoffreyFowler's writings. Article lampoons FBook, scarcely broadening scope. Common. It also elevates (cr)apple and scAm-azon services.
If you're not using an adblocker, whether at the DNS level, as system software, or as a browser plugin (or even a multilayered combination), WHY THE HELL NOT!?
@trib@Fury Let’s not forget #Brave in the list of secure browsers!
I actually had a lot of fun a couple years ago deploying PiHole on one of my RaspberryPi’s and routing all my household machines through it. It worked great UNTIL.. my kid was turning in empty homework on Google Classroom and his teachers were getting up him about it. We chastised him thinking it was his fault until I finally discovered that Pihole was messing up his uploads to GC and literally causing this problem. I got super angry with it and walked away without even trying to troubleshoot. Had to profusely apologise not only to his teachers but to him.
Have not as yet tried #PrivacyBadger. Maybe later today. The logo for it has a real dodgy expression on the badger’s face IMO 😏
🤣🤣🤣 @cnnbrk Here’s some breaking news, CNN Breaking News. Not everyone is running Brave. I don’t. Many do run privacy controls. How ironic that our privacy controls are blocking your “privacy protections,” and you insist we should TRUST YOU. Is that like trusting Meta to protect users’ phone numbers by passing their chats through Meta servers…?
So hilarious. Thank you for self-deselecting from my trusted news sources. 🤣🤣🤣
If you happen to enjoy and appreciate my work, I work for a small and obscure non-profit called the Electronic Frontier Foundation and if you donate to them today, your donation will be doubled by a matching sponsor.
These donations feed my cats. You know you don't want my cats to go hungry.
So yes, Google Chrome just rolled out a new way to track you and serve ads How to fix it? Switch to Firefox. Not to Edge. Alternatively, if you need Chome for work. Visit chrome://settings/adPrivacy and turn off each setting. Of course get Adbloker too ;)
People going “if #meta gets on #mastodon and joins the #fediverse it will be able to track us!” don’t worry about that! Meta/Facebook is already tracking you through the embedded scripts it has on all the popular websites you probably use.
Here’s what you can do about it.
First, use the #EFF#privacybadger browser extension on whatever browser you have (use Firefox because Chrome or Chrome-based browsers will nuke adblocking stuff soon). 1/2
