Clean way to open / #X to cross post links, without having to stumble upon any Tweet or without seeing the timeline:

  • Origin
  • Element Picker: highlight and click the border between side menu and timeline
  • Click Create
  • Now when you open Twitter it will always be plain white
  • You can open the Compose URL (/compose/post), cross post and begone.

Empty, no timeline in sight.

If the Timeline appears again someday, just repeat the process to pick up the new CSS classes.

A screenshot of Twitter / X showing the timeline highlighted in red and a green circle in the border between the side menus and the timeline.
A screenshot of uBlock Origin dialog showing some cryptic CSS class names and a green arrow pointing to a "Create" blue button
A screenshot of Twitter / X showing the compose Tweet window and in the background it's just white, no Twitter timeline content.

mastodon.xyz##.status-card.expanded .status-card__title:style(-webkit-line-clamp:4 !important)

Did not know that uBlock has a "disable large media" option.

When enabled it tries to block any media larger than a specified size (until you click on said media)

Less data to load means a faster and cheaper internet 😄

No. No. If ppl care they'll adapt to anything. Anyway, Tor is designed to be easy to use. In fact, its too dumbed-down. We have to help ppl by instructing how to use NoScript addon in Safest Mode, like basically everyone who has used Tor for years. Also .

As we said "for the more tech savvy", TailsOS is a good option". Ie. just say "for the more tech savvy".

dsfgs,

Tails is designed for everyday people.

That link has a few dot points and its a good page to reference, but for the average person who just wants to open a browser and do some searches is pretty wonderful, in every way, really.

Even though we're not fans of GNOME desktop and dislike that they dropped I2P, its still good. Flash-a-USB and forget, almost.

Even has already in , for messaging, Electron for , and a good system to report issues.

If I use the internet alone the block rate is about 0,1% because I only use software, and .

But if someone else with a "normal" phone is using the internet, too, PiHole has to block 8,1% of all queries!

I am still responsible for most of the traffic so just image the percentage if all clients were normal non-FOSS tracking devices!

I'm a Firefox user, but Brave Browser seems to be doing a good job of protecting its users as well.

Here is a list of disabled Chromium features in Brave. Quite an interesting read.

@mkiol I also installed Browser as an additional tool. However, I only use it very rarely. As always, there is some criticism that keeps popping up. Among other things, that the lists are hand curated. So that certain actors like Facebook get data. I can't confirm or deny this.
There have been claims of problems (data leak, crypto …) in the past: https://news.sophos.com/en-us/2020/06/09/brave-ceo-apologises-for-adding-affiliate-links-to-urls/ which appear to be fixed. I haven't found any good independent analyses of brave.

121 for went out yesterday.

This version enables a lot more extensions.

The first extension you probably want is the Origin . Yes, it blocks almost every ad, but it also blocks the data collection attempts realted to those ads, which is as important.

Adblocking is particularly important right now as the web undergoes an enshittification cycle driven by the exposure of Google and Meta. They've stopped pretending to be not evil, the squeeze is on.

+ uBlock Origin will blow you away with speed and low memory/cpu use, if you're currently used to Chrome. They really stepped up the performance a few years ago with a mostly-new rendering engine, but they were already a distant afterthought by then. Most people didn't know there was anything but Chrome (and relatives) available.
