Zen Master Seung Sahn said "Silence is better than holiness, so opening your mouth is a big mistake."
Indeed, this is wise. But if you do make this big mistake, make sure you do it for the Church of the SubGenius. Our Sensei teaches the Zen of Insanity. Send $2 for a life changing booklet:

A bird sings, and the mountain holds yet more mystery.

“How can I be of service?”

…is a question that bodhisattvas carry in their hearts when they encounter another being, even just for a very brief moment.

Kennin-ji (建仁寺) is Kyoto's oldest Zen temple, and it's a staggeringly beautiful place that is renowned for its indoor decorative paintings and its perfectly tended gardens. It also provides a haven of quietness not far from the overtourism craze that the nearby Gion district has become over the last decade.

All photos shot with Nikon D7000 and Nikkor 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6 lens.

Sewing for Zen needs ...
I was gifted lately with a wonderful set of oryoki bowls by my even more wonderful husband, and i decided to sew the cloth stuff one needs for using it. It's of course far from being perfect, but it's mine, and i like it. I chose green cotton for the wrapper, the napkin and the holder and white gauze for the wiping kerchiefs. I really enjoy doing oryoki once a week at home.
@sewing

five black laquer oryoki bowls for eating ritual meals, opened. Placed inbetween there are the black chopsticks, the black spoon, and the wooden cleaning tools. All is placed on green cloth.
My oryoki set, put together and waiting to be used, all wrapped in green cloth and knotted on the top. They are also ready for transport this way.

sewing for Zen needs (2)

I sewed a blue satchel for the stuff i need when going to the zendo. I used a blue nettle i dyed in the washing machine. The satchel is big enough for holding my meditation apparel, a drinking bottle and all the stuff one needs when leaving the house.
The pattern for this was free.

Visiting the magnificent cherry blossoms at the University of Washington in Seattle is truly a magical experience.
Just got around to upload few more images from last year in anticipation of Spring. Here’s a sample.
