Have y'all ever had someone act like you were hurting them somehow by just liking a food?

Any time I buy or make kimchi, my Mom says it's so gross and she doesn't want any and just on and on. I never offer it to her, or make group food with it, but for some reason she seems offended by it, and I don't know why.

3dogcouch,
@3dogcouch@mas.to avatar

@RickiTarr I get more agita for what I don’t eat. Me, in my mind, thru decades at the table: I don’t care what YOU eat, but leave me tf alone about my failure to eat meat, sushi, bananas, fried crap, sugary shit, & all the other stuff you like & I don’t.

@RickiTarr I agree. Feels like a form of contempt either way.

’s Republican governor, Henry McMaster, signed a bill on Tuesday that bars health professionals from performing gender-transition surgeries, prescribing puberty blocking drugs and overseeing hormone treatments for patients under 18. The state now joins about two dozen others that have passed laws restricting or banning what doctors call gender-affirming care for minors. (1/2)

So I am finally catching up on last week’s news & I am so pleased to see this future Senator kicked her racist primary opponent’s arse & sent the polls to the curb as well.

Angela Alsobrooks' primary win for Maryland Senate seat set polling data on fire https://www.msnbc.com/the-reidout/reidout-blog/angela-alsobrooks-maryland-senate-democrats-rcna152398

3dogcouch,
@3dogcouch@mas.to avatar

I would like ppl to be encouraged by these results to get out & work & vote for Dems & not be discouraged by polls. I think polling is very difficult these days, & ppl do not always realize that a registered voter is not the same as a likely voter, & likely voters sometimes don't.

What advice would you give to someone just starting out in a relationship?

Mine might sound kind of dark in relation to the question, but here goes:

People change, and they should, it's part of being a person. Some people are lucky, and they change in the same direction, but some don't, and that's okay too. There's no shame in leaving a relationship or changing the nature of a relationship that no longer serves you. We are all taught that every relationship, whether romantic or friendship, is supposed to last forever, but nothing is forever, and forcing something that no longer works, just ends in anger and bitterness. Knowing when to let go is as important as knowing when to hold on through a rough patch, and how to know either of those things is the most cliché advice of all, COMMUNICATE.

3dogcouch,
@3dogcouch@mas.to avatar

@RickiTarr Bail fast on anyone who belittles or undermines you, even subtly or with teasing, & certainly do not cook or clean for them while you hope they will change. You do not have the power to change them for the better with time but you do have the power to leave early on.

I have followed the pretty closely & my takeaway from today is that it is effing appalling that , his admin, & his in particular, stand credibly accused by of obstructive & corrupt activities far beyond anything charged here, & the faux pious of the US House is there to bless all of it. Just shocking.

Back to regular life... the Open House, although filled with positive feedback on our house, was a dud.

Again.

It's so disheartening. We're priced right, the house is beautiful, in great shape, great neighborhood... etc etc.

So we wait.

@GottaLaff @MarkRDavid Been there. Have you ever seen a home for sale with a picture tour given by a realtor in an inflatable dinosaur suit? Saw that once on zillow & thought it was very funny. Dino looking in fridge, Dino reclining, etc. I got so desperate to sell my house I considered it. But mostly the idea made me laugh often, & that is what I needed. It will sell. Hang in there!

@StillIRise1963 I feel like yesterday the press & pundits ( & in particular) should have led with Gaza, Rafah, famine, & US military supplies being withheld instead of maybe getting around to it eventually. Again for people (racists), complaining about falling birth rates:

The birth rate for women over 40 is not falling. The birth rate for women over 30 is not falling.

What's happening, is girls 15 to 17 are having fewer babies. Kids are having fewer kids.

Also, this is an interesting way of saying that "Teen pregnancy is down, due to sex education and contraception."

In 1991 25% of 15 year olds gave birth before they turned 21. That's bad. Now it's 6%. That's better.

When I was a first year college student in 1974 I remember looking through my high school yearbook & one out of 3 (rural white & native) girls who had graduated with me a few months earlier was pregnant, had a child, was married, or/& was dead.

The past was not bucolic glory. Twas widespread fear, resignation, & despair, & did not build character.

You are right. Sex ed works. Contraception & abortion work. Equality works. College aid works. Opportunity works. Progress exists.

Let’s talk .

There’s a lot of analysis out there that I believe is driven by a fundamental misunderstanding of the way fights wars.

Bottom line up front: Russia’s current goals in Ukraine aren’t necessarily victory, at least not in the traditional military sense.

We’ve seen evidence of this since even before Russia’s annexation of Crimea in 2014. More on that later.

One problem the prosecution faces, imo, is that nobody understands what is & is not legal with regard to money & politics. It is ALL so unsavory, especially since Citizens United, it is hard to take 130k very seriously.

On top of that, ppl have such low opinions of politicians & media, it is easy to imagine cynicism setting in. I hope the patient & simple demeanor of earnest prosecutors can overcome the seediness & fog.
