I have an ask of each of you.

Saturday morning I suddely collapsed and lost consciousness. I apparently experienced sudden cardiac arrest.

We don't know why yet. I didn't have a heart attack, stroke, or pulmonary embolus, and I don't have cardiomyopathy, heart failure, or any known heart disease.

I tell you this because you never know when someone's life depends on you.

My ask: get trained and stay current with training.

I am a geriatric psychiatrist practicing at a state hospital, for my day job. I lead and teams for the American at the chapter and National HQ levels. Our NHQ teams are currently assigned to multiple operations.

I am committed to doing as much good as I can as long as I can.

Okay, let's get this one out of the way as I see it going around:

The auroras being seen so far south tonight has absolutely nothing to do with . It is caused by multiple coronal mass ejections on the sun in the past few days, which occurred because we are at the peak of the 11-year solar cycle. It has nothing whatsoever to do with climate.

As always, my policy is: post misinformation, you get blocked.

From earlier:

The first picture is the display of a railroad signalman's desk at the NC Transportation Museum in Spencer NC, circa 1946. (My grandfather was a railroad signalman after returning from World War II).

The second picture is my radio station (in a cluttered state), 80 years on.

What's striking to me is that, though my station has more advanced tech, both stations have the same elements- including the Morse straight key.

There's apparently an unconscious tradition in the family!

I am pulling together photo files for the family that goes as far as 20 years back, so there are lots of files.

I'd like to set up a file on a machine on my home network (i.e., not exposed to the wider Internet) so that the pictures can easily be accessed. Key is the ability for the others to be able to access them from Windows, so perhaps a browser/web-based implementation might be best.

Any ideas? Tnx

Most people want to wear respirators to protect themselves, but they don't because they THINK everyone else is judging them.

People are digging their own graves because they believe something that isn't true. It's literally just inertia and a few super loud assholes.

Wearing a respirator isn't hard.

Getting sick all the time is. Being disabled is. Saying goodbye to your spouse and kids as they prep you for intubation is. Rehab for a stroke is. Watching your parents die from a virus they caught from you is. Growing up without a mom or dad is.

But wearing a respirator isn't hard.

I'm currently reading Blake Gopnik's biography of Andy Warhol. Fascinating book. But it does confirm my belief that art in the 21st century really needs to be released from the grip of the gatekeepers, collectors, and academics.

The tools and means of distribution for many artforms in the digital space are now available for anyone, essentially for free.

Let's take a page from punk history: "Now form a band".

I have barely played a note since the pandemic came. I lost the heart to play music. I had to drop out abruptly from the orchestra in March 2020, and I'll probably never get to do that again.

I realized tonight- for me to be truly whole, for me to heal from what the pandemic did to me as a health care provider- I have to play music. @flockofnazguls was right. (1/2)

@flockofnazguls I still think that piece- "Infinitum" for the film In Saturn's Rings- even though I didn't write it, it was the best thing I ever did. Would love to do more film music but not likely to ever get the chance- and that's okay.

    It's remarkable- as the eclipse started it's like someone flipped a switch and turned off 20 meters. I am copying a few stations but they are all weak- and no contacts.
