Homebrewandhacking,

Neoliberalism delenda est.

Yeah, alright. Makes sense.

if my maths is right, 5 more copies (maybe 6) and !Terrain Feature Volume #1 - Forests" will hit copper rating on DTRPG!

coughs and points to the link that oh no how did that get there ;)

Homebrewandhacking,

@EnneadGames

That sounds quite cool. I'd never consider the idea of a forest having quirks before.

Examples of stories in which an antagonist waits at a choke point and threatens/challenges people who come through. Knights challenging at fords in Arthurian romance, Robin Hood and Little John, Monty Python & the Holy Grail ... what are some other good ones?

Homebrewandhacking,

@juergen_hubert

As the foremost expert in German oral folklore that I know of... 😀 ... any thoughts?

Looking for stories where a villain blocks a path and prevents people/heroes passing.

The movie released to streaming in the US 112 days ago. It remains in the top 10 most watched movies in America and has been since day one.

112 days this movie based on nerds rolling dice in basements remains relevant to audiences.

112 days of the absurd humor, dual plots with only one advertised, dragons that are ultimately irrelevant to the story.

It's only this week. It may fade away, but seeing my youth brightly featured in positive light brings huge smiles to my teenage face.

Homebrewandhacking,

@bedirthan

Very well put-together as a film as well. I saw it three times at the cinema (for work and friends) and didn't fall asleep!

nods I'm glad they can at least buy in something good even though they cancel excellent series on a whim.

So I'm finally basically done with twitter - now using it only to reply to people or promote products, but man does it suck for a lot of artists. Twitter was never a big part of my business, but for some people it was the popular streetcorner they did their work. For them it's just lost money that they won't get back. The modern all-social Internet is brutal.

Homebrewandhacking,

@ZachWeinersmith

Discovery for creators is an absolute nightmare. You thinking of getting back into webrings or something?

Homebrewandhacking,

@ZachWeinersmith

That's a tricky one because I check smbc as part of my routine (don't have RSS) so that's where I find out about your books and sometimes back/ buy them.

My personal Facebook experience has become abysmal. I can't even see my friends posts half the time. IG is a mess with a constant barrage of right wing propaganda! So weird!

Sometimes you read something and think "eh". Other times you read something and say "yes, exactly this."

A case of the latter.

Homebrewandhacking,

@mez

Well it's probably worth finding climate scientists or other environmental professionals and following them so you have a better understanding. Then find the people who think that things should change and follow them.

At some point there'll hopefully be something that you can contribute towards and since there's a bunch of people here that could make quite the difference.

There is some leadership going on, just insufficient.

Homebrewandhacking,

@mez

Yes, MicroblogFedi does lend itself automatically to "think global, act local" by design, making it easy to keep track of the foremost thinkers in the field and also people local to you.

I find the inherent self-organising properties very attractive which is why I like putting # on posts and helping connect people. 😀

It's amazing how many open source bros will come out of the woodwork to mansplain at you if you make a fairly uncontroversial statement like "it'd be nice if they changed the name of that photo editor to something that wasn't an ableist perjorative", and yet, here we are.

Homebrewandhacking,

@chrissn

That's very old fashioned. I haven't seen someone use "git as a pejorative" for 20 years or more.

Not quite there with cad, bounder or spiv, but heading that way!

[Edited to clarify subject.]
@fluchtkapsel @dierksen @tess

Homebrewandhacking,

@tess @fluchtkapsel @chrissn @dierksen

Seems to be some confusion? I'm talking about "git" which is why I put that posters name first to indicate I was talking to them about that. I included everyone else below as part of the comment chain.

I am perfectly prepared to believe that gimp is an ablist slur, that is frequently used, but my associations are more "mask" and "suit" which also make it terrible branding.

A new study has found a terrible bottleneck in human ancestors about 900k years ago. There were as few as 1000 individuals left ... if this is verified further there was a time when we almost didn't make it.

I don't think the genetic bottleneck theory is new but the experimental methodology seems to be?

Also: super volcanoes. Dangerous things.

    A while back I was describing the idea of video rental stores to my kid and she was absolutely enthralled by the idea that you walk around a story to see pictures of all the movies, and at the end there was candy and popcorn. This is not the best example, but it's an interesting example of how efficiency, though good, often costs nice tactile things.
