TRANS AND GENDER DIVERSE FRIENDS:

Since coming to terms with your gender, how often have you wished you were just a regular cis person of your gender? (E.g. trans fems wishing they were "just another cis girl")

And if you could reply, I'd love to hear why you have those feelings or thoughts. ๐Ÿ’œ

TRANS FEM FRIENDS: What do you wish you could say to the person you were before transition who thought it was impossible to ever actually be a girl or be fem?

I sometimes think back and find myself at a loss at what would have supported that girl best. She was so sad, hopeless, and often dissociated or in fight/flight/freeze/fawn over her distress with how she felt like she couldn't fit in the world. And like, I know "it gets better" or "it really is possible" wouldn't have gotten through.

I talk to a lot of young trans folks who go through this still every day, and so would appreciate others thoughts on this!

TRANS FRIENDS:
Would you be willing to let me share pictures of your transition timeline on my blog?

There are so many of us that feel like it will be impossible to ever be ourselves. I want to show what social transition, HRT, and/or gender-affirming surgeries are capable of doing for us because I know that would have made a difference for me once upon a time.

If you can reply or send me a direct message with your timeline or before/after images, and let me know whether you want your name/masto handle on it or if you would prefer to have no name/handle on it, I would really appreciate it! The piece in question will discuss a little bit of complicated history of the before/after transition images but then focus on the power of seeing how dynamic our bodies are and how much is possible through different kinds of transition. If you change your mind after sharing, I can always remove your images.

I'm kind of curious: did any cis white men on the fedi even notice the big conflict a bunch our communities on here just went through, the racist and transphobic things that spilled into people's feeds?

I ask because like, the cishet white dudes I follow on here seem to just be posting the same stuff they always do and no sense of anxiety, trauma, or concern in what they share.

It's not that I want cis white guys weighing in on this per se, it's just...I wish for all of us to have the privilege of the social media experience of the average cis white man. ๐Ÿ˜“โ€‹

(NOTE: Just to clarify, it appears a lot actually did see some of it but were only catching snippets and indirect comments, and did the right thing of not becoming that reply guy jumping into a fight they weren't a part of. Appreciate getting the perspective because it's hard to gauge what others experience on here)

I really want a better and more reliable enby equivalent of "girl" or "man." I know out here in Cali, people see "dude" as effectively neutral, and in some gay circles the gay "gurl" is effectively gender neutral, but that doesn't carry everywhere. I just love to be able to drop the distance and be like, "I hear you, gurl!"

Of course, it's a minor thing and I can always try to use other phrases that are a bit more bulky. I just keep finding more and more that I want us to develop more extensive terminology for us non-binary folks that doesn't just refer back to the binary (though playing with that can still be fun).

Still experience an insufficient number of girls kissing me on the face. There are sapphic supply chain problems in my area. I am at risk of a gay gap in the girl-kisses race. If this is not addressed, I will experience lesbian languishing as my queerness fails to be quenched! ๐Ÿ˜ญ

I'm curious, just based on my demeanor or appearance, how old would you think I am? I've gotten some wild guesses before that caught me off guard, so I'm curious how I come across in our little corner of the fediverse.

I'll attach a few photos in a reply in case you've never seen me before.

(Also, please boost! I'd love to get a perspective from folks who don't even follow me)

A Transpiring Primer on Queer Culture ๐Ÿงตโ€‹

At the instigation of @jessica and other trans and queer siblings, my ADHD has compelled me to assemble a basic guide or primer on LGBTQ+ Media, Literature, and Culture for those getting their footing in our community. This is not authoritative, this just one rando queer trans gal's perspective on the keys to queer culture and art.

This will be very loosely organized and potentially chaotic...do not be afraid, my brain is just weird. Also, once the whole thread is up, feel free to add your own notes on key artists, media, moments, and more.

Wait, so both Deadpool and Harley Quinn are bi/pan, and they are both some of the only characters of their respective franchises that can engage in meta-commentary....is this a secret bi/pan stereotype? Does everyone believe we have the ability to engage in meta-commentary to an unseen audience and break the fourth wall on reality?!

Joscelyn turns to camera Little do they know, right? Shhh...this is just between you and me...

gulp

If you're a US citizen, please contact your senators and representatives about this, ESPECIALLY if they are democrats. Ask them to not support these bills with these anti-trans amendments attached.

I didn't realize the latest version of these has also attempted to ban all federal funding to any hospital that provides gender-affirming care (esp. puberty blockers / HRT), meaning hospitals and HMOs would probably be bullied into dropping almost all gender-affirming care across the entire US.

If these are approved, the world for trans USians will become very narrow and many of us will not be able to live as trans people anymore.

Joscelyn's guide to body affirming basics

The following is what I've found helpful for me with clothes, skin care, hair care, perspective, etc. to feel better and more euphoric in my body and my face. Of course, your mileage may vary and I want to encourage you to find how you can use these things to affirm yourself in the way you need. Don't just put a cookie cutter model of transness onto yourself but nurture your needs and cultivate your garden of queerness :QueerCatHeart_Trans:โ€‹

Warning to all: I am a bicanthrope. Yes, my bisexuality is a phase...like the moon. I become horny for plethoras of genders as the full moon waxes and will randomly thirst over thembos, hunks, and adorable dudes that I was nonplussed about the week before.

BEWARE: If I bite you, you too will become cursed with bicanthropy and become a libidinous disaster. I suggest polyamory and attending an orgy or two. ๐Ÿ˜‰โ€‹

WIDE-TORSO FEMS: I can heartily endorse the wire-free push-up from Torrid...this is literally the best bra I have ever found for helping support the shape, cleavage, and silhouette that affirms me in sparkly euphoria. It is also a really nice balance of comfort and push-up rather than sacrificing own for the other. I would suggest this bra to anyone who has a large gap between their breasts or a wide torso

One of the funniest things about Polyamory: it is almost certain, much to your surprise, that you do, indeed, have "a type." ๐Ÿ˜…

Me: I don't really have a type. I don't go looking for this or that kind of person, I'm open to anybody I really vibe with and enjoy having fun and deep conversations with. And I'm bi, so I'm open to genders and everything.

Dates a series of autistic trans people of lesbian experience

Me: okay, but that's still pretty open

Half the people she dates have golden retriever energy, the other half have misanthropic supervillain energy

Me: okay okay....but...

The other day @revoluciana gave me a funny but nice compliment. I attempted to show her my old boy voice and she just smiled and shook her head and was like, "Joscelyn, you just sound like a girl mocking a guy by pretending to do his voice." I can't even do a convincing boy voice anymore! ๐Ÿ˜…

To be fair, it's kinda hard not to poke fun at that dude. I mean, he really thought he was a cis het guy? Really? Yeah, my man, you spend hours on fictionmania on an almost weekly basis and alwayd prefer to play games as a female character...yep, sure, no transness there ๐Ÿ˜œ

We really need to educate people on statistical reasoning and mixed methods research...A RANT THREAD (1/?)

Okay, so, cards on the table, I am published as a mixed methods, social science researcher and have helped co-author multiple reports on LGBTQIA+ public mental health and community experiences. Let's just say, I ain't no amateur on this topic.

So, something that drives me nuts in conversations about trans healthcare and especially trans youth gender-affirming care is that people don't understand basic statistical reasoning.

One of the parts of this that clicked for me today on why so many arguments frustrate me is that people don't actually understand how sampling works and how we reason from a specific sample in a study....

It's official: I have acquired blahaj.

My wife and I went to IKEA to get some things for the new house and this was my first time going to IKEA! So...I was required by law to secure everyone's favorite fish...and ended up getting a big one and a small one... because.

So, my bad brain is telling me I'm annoying, unwanted, and should stop butting into other people's lives because all I do is make things worse.

I'm tired of arguing with that bitch (she went to grad school and is a bit too skilled at making compelling arguments), would anyone else like to give it a go? Could probably use some other voices than the one inside my head right now

Something I only realized last year: people under 25 don't listen to albums anymore, they listen to songs!

I had noticed artists would just put out singles more often than actual albums lately. And then I would suggest an artist to younger people I know and they would tell me the song was great, and that they listen to the artist all the time and they're one of their favorites. And I'd mention the next song on the album from the song I shared...and they would be surprised and tell me they never heard it? I'm like, do...do you not listen to albums anymore? And I've had more than one young person tell me they've never listened to a whole album but are going to give it a try now...

...I feel so, so, soooo old ๐Ÿ˜ฑ๐Ÿ‘ต๐Ÿผ
