Random thought: When people started sharing artist's work without their permission on Napster, there was a freakout by corporations and wealthy artists, and it was criminalized. When corporations started sharing artist's work without their permission through "AI," laws were changed to make it easier and corporations forced it on everyone.

It's almost like whoever owns the means of production will bend the media and government to increase their profits without regard to a consistent ethos. And that whatever they do will be at odds with the interests of those that actually do the work to produce things. Hmmmm.... 🧐

If you're a US citizen, please contact your senators and representatives about this, ESPECIALLY if they are democrats. Ask them to not support these bills with these anti-trans amendments attached.

I didn't realize the latest version of these has also attempted to ban all federal funding to any hospital that provides gender-affirming care (esp. puberty blockers / HRT), meaning hospitals and HMOs would probably be bullied into dropping almost all gender-affirming care across the entire US.

If these are approved, the world for trans USians will become very narrow and many of us will not be able to live as trans people anymore.

I applied for a new job last night on indeed, and it required a "management skills test" in addition to the application itself. This included a question about how to best coerce your employees to "return to office" even though most them are working remotely and being productive anyway. Like, what the fresh hell is this?

And I should note that it included absolutely zero response options for "don't be an ableist bitch and at least continue hybrid work to enable people with disabilities and especially vulnerable to COVID to keep their jobs." This wasn't the org's fault, as this is like a standardized "test" by the platform, but it sure says something to me that this is being ideologically inserted as something they think employers want you to be prepared to do.

May they step on loose Legos and mysteriously bruise their elbow.

There’s a genre of person who can easily recognize the Holodomor as a genocide by the Soviet state against Ukrainians but will deny that the Israeli state’s starvation blockade of Gaza constitutes genocide.

There’s another genre of person who can easily recognize genocide in Gaza but will deny the Holodomor.

In reality, these two genres are just cheering squads for different states—people who have chosen to recognize or deny genocide based on the national identity of the perpetrators. To them, the world is a team sport and what really matters is whether their favored team is scoring points or not.

Since I am looking at a period of being out of work again, I am thinking this is a good opportunity to prioritize this. So, I've been promising to turn my thread on gender euphoria advice (https://chaosfem.tw/@JoscelynTransient/110226818047150799) into something more. Well, the time has come: announcing the "How to Gender Euphoria" zine!

The goal is to create a zine that I will publish every two months. Each issue will focus on an area or topic of gender euphoria, including practical how-to's, short essays reflecting on gendery things, and even an advice column! Yes, you and anyone else can send in questions about how to pursue your euphoria!

The first several issues will be focused upon gender euphoria for trans fems, but if I get enough support I can help pay for trans masc contributors to join the project and expand to trans masc focused issues. That's the goal anyway. If this goes really well, we may branch out into other topics and areas as well.

Does anybody else know why so many cis people are blissfully unaware of the anti-trans laws that are passing in the US and the increase in anti-trans hate?

Among people I meet day to day, friends and former coworkers, and my family, I keep finding cis people surprised when I tell them that there are now anti-trans laws on the books in like half the states and when I explain the proposed or current law in their state. Heck, a lot of folks also unaware of the high rate of anti-trans violence even in Southern California. Some of them look really disturbed when I explain how trans people using the bathroom in Florida is effectively a crime now.

These are people who are ostensibly allies and are just completely unaware. I understand some people don't follow the news much. I get that people aren't as likely to follow news that doesn't directly affect them. But how is there this big a blind spot in most of the population when it's a main talking point of one of only two major parties?

Looking for recommendations: does anybody know of fellowships or scholarships for pursuing master's in social work or counseling to become a licensed therapist/counselor?

I am a bi lesbian trans woman living in California, and considering a career pivot into becoming a licensed therapist or counselor, but like...how the heck can I cover the cost of pursuing that? Search engines have be enshittified to the point it's hard to be confident that I'm not missing something obvious, so hoping maybe someone on the fediverse knows some options other than just students loans from FAFSA.

We really need to educate people on statistical reasoning and mixed methods research...A RANT THREAD (1/?)

Okay, so, cards on the table, I am published as a mixed methods, social science researcher and have helped co-author multiple reports on LGBTQIA+ public mental health and community experiences. Let's just say, I ain't no amateur on this topic.

So, something that drives me nuts in conversations about trans healthcare and especially trans youth gender-affirming care is that people don't understand basic statistical reasoning.

One of the parts of this that clicked for me today on why so many arguments frustrate me is that people don't actually understand how sampling works and how we reason from a specific sample in a study....

I really enjoy history podcasts like History of Rome, Revolutions, History of Japan, and the British History Podcast....but I haven't really encountered anything in this style about the societies and cultures in those places and times. And that's a problem because I should and want to know more!

When people were surprised Doctor Who started having trans characters, it seemed pretty obvious to me they weren't real fans. I mean, the Doctor changes their face and gender presentation regularly, dresses in a way that doesn't correspond to the gender binary on the planet they were raised on, and goes by a chosen name that confuses everyone.

There was literally a whole story arc during the 11th Doctor where the whole point was that their given name is a secret that is just written down in some Time Lord documents. And the Time Lords require them to use their deadname to verify who they are and answer their security question. And the only people who know it is their wife, who learned it at their wedding (as one might on a legal document), and someone who came across their documents saved in their library.

PLEASE help out one of my found family? You'll be helping out a trans Latina who just needs help until her food stamps and new job comes through after an accident.

I spent the night at the ER the other day because @SophiaAlcala got in an accident on her electric scooter while commuting. She's okay, thankfully, but this came at a bad time when she had run low on money for food and other basic needs. Not to mention now she needs to fix her scooter, her only means of transportation.

Our goal is to raise $400 to repair her scooter so she can get around again and $600 to pay for food and other basic expenses in the meantime. Please, anything you can spare would be a favor to me as well as helping Sophia.
