My daughter was walking to the King Soopers grocery in Boulder, CO as it was being shot up by a gunman. Her dad called her to make sure she knew it was going on. That call turned her around and she went home and locked down. She moved to #Maine a few years ago. I texted her now about the Lewiston, ME shooting happening. She didn’t know. She’s 20 mins from #Lewiston - not close, but not far enough for me.

When we talk about raising the price of something in order to decrease demand, just remember… the only demand we’re decreasing is among those folks who can no longer afford said thing. Increase the taxes on fuel and you’re making it harder for lower income folks, not the wealthy who can pay any price you demand. Demand may decline, but it may also be punishing to the people just trying to get to work, not the jet-class.

I stepped onto the deck to check the bird feeder, looked down and saw mama in my neighbor’s yard (I don’t prune my bushes into Seuss shapes). I think there are more of them than us. Yesterday I drove down my driveway and a big buck was blocking me. I honked. He just stood there. I moved forward. He moved forward. We had a standoff for about 10 mins before he sauntered right past my window and eyeballed me.

We live in #wildlife sanctuary. They have free reign here. No fences. No guns.

I'm dealing with my dying mother's financials. After years of giving her money every month for food and utilities, I've just discovered she's been donating thousands of dollars each year to a few viable charities and even more GOP PACs that she believed were charities helping veterans and young people in need. She's a Democrat. She had no idea what she was giving her money to and now I'm having to undo all of those automated debits. Check on your elder parents. Someone is probably scamming them.

Long chat with a neighbor, who was high ranking govnt personnel working in war zones, now retired. We discussed Gaza and Biden’s military support for Israel. S/he conveyed that we can’t expect Biden to abandon Israel over possible war crimes because they backed us in the Iraq war - and they know our hands were not clean under Bush/Cheney. S/he basically suggested that because of Bush II’s war in the ME, the US cannot demand a cease fire without risking exposure of our own closeted skeletons.

My husband returned from a few days spent with his parents. He said he had long talks with his inexplicably Trumpy dad about his support for him. He’s not a bad man, just easily manipulated by Fox News.

After long discussions, his dad came to him the 3rd morning and told him he sees everything more clearly and is embarrassed he voted for and supported Trump. My husband showed him truths he hadn’t been exposed to before.

Proof we need to work harder to break the spell!

Because they know it enriches the learning experience for all and makes them a more desirable choice for more people. #GenZ wants more diversity, not less.

The humor of my day just gets better!

I met the construction foreman outside right after I'd showered. No makeup. Hair in a pile. Wearing sweats and glasses.

2 hours later he knocks on the door to ask a question. I appear dressed for work. Makeup on. Hair down, no glasses...

He looks at me strangely, "Hi, um, I was talking to the other lady about trimming back some bushes. Can you ask her if that's still ok?"

Poor guy was so embarrassed when I had to tell him I was, in fact, the same "lady."

Dining out has gotten ridiculous. We’ve cut way back, but last night we took our daughter out to dinner… two grilled salmon sandwiches that were mostly bread and an ahi rice bowl that was mostly rice, $96. Add a 20% wage adjustment for our server and we were at $115. Add 3 drinks and we were at $170.

Corporate America seeks a return to the Guilded Age.

My firm’s biggest client just cut all of their contractors in marketing, IT, advertising, and design with zero notice and basically told their overworked in-house teams to suck it up. They’ve got investors to please. Now I have to cut my subcontractors unless I replace the client quickly. We’re all scratching our heads… to do this right in the middle of multiple large projects underway. 🙁

This is the real “trickle down economics.”

What’s the dumbest thing you know someone to have done at #BurningMan?

I know an attorney who went one time, got completely wasted, met a guy, married him in a half naked, drunken body painting ceremony under a tent, posted pics all over her social, brought him back to town with her, filed for divorce a week or 2 later, and was fired by her law firm when the photos started showing up in their inboxes. She left the state and became a social media “influencer” after that.

In talking with my dad* about the Israel’s attacks on Gaza and the US government’s continued support for Netanyahu, he responded, “Israel is our only reliable ally in the Middle East. We will stay loyal to them to protect our oil interests [aka: oil companies] above all else.”

That’s not to say we don’t have other interests with Israel, we do - but oil is a big one.

*My dad is retired from a high security clearance career with the DOD and was in the military.

In my household I am the fixit engineer and IT support. My brain just works that way, maybe because my dad’s an engineer and my mom was a computer programmer. But no matter how often I design a solid plan to address an issue that needs fixing, my husband offers an infeasible, alternate plan and then argues with me to defend it.

Most recently, he went with ‘his plan’ that ended up torquing the hinges on my SUV’s lift gate. Now he has to take it in for repair because it won’t shut/lock.
