Daily at the winter solstice (and at Cors y Gedol chambered tomb, which very nearly aligns with the sunset on the shortest day).

A multi-purpose Daily in winter today - because it’s also a as well as (loosely) a .

This is the double chambered tomb in Dyffryn Ardudwy, Gwynedd. It’s just behind the village school, just down the hill from another chambered tomb, all in an area just stuffed with more archaeology. (OK, that was quite chatty for a silent Sunday)

Today’s Daily is multitasking as also a and (with a bit of leeway, because it’s a chambered tomb) a .

Double chambered tomb, Dyffryn Ardudwy, Gwynedd. Just behind the village school, up a short track opposite the Spar. Life surrounds it.

More trees for my Daily , with a side order of archaeology.

These ancient and battered hawthorns either side of a dip are growing on the remains of an Iron Age roundhouse; the dip is the entrance. Others grow around the periphery, but the sunken middle of the house is clear. This place is so atmospheric that I, cynical archaeologist once, always pause before entering. Respect for the past and the people who lived in this place.

Solstice greeting from a bunch of Welsh sheep sheltering under an ancient hawthorn by a Neolithic chambered tomb. Perfectly normal (and my second Daily , since the first random scroll pic was so gloomy).

Daily , walking down on to the beach. But not this week - we have had very high tides, with the sea right up to the dunes (and partly over).

Interesting driving, too, as the tide is no respecter of the A496 between Barmouth and Dolgellau. No pics. Too busy trying to drive while keeping fingers crossed.

Daily and, possibly inevitably, I’m starting the week with sheep.

Starting the week with sheep for my Daily . Inspired to do so because this Tuesday sees the opening of our makers’ pop-up in , where I will be spinning in public during the next four weeks.

And talking about sheep. A lot. These, BTW, are Black Welsh Mountains.

Daily in winter with tangled trees and a walk through one of our ‘Celtic rainforests’. Definitely a , whatever my views on the Celtic rainforest term. And definitely beautiful.

Couldn’t resist this cheeky robin for my Daily in winter (there are hills in the mirror, though they look miles away) - and it’s also a , if you count the car window. This is a beach car park, the dunes held back by that wall, and it’s hugely busy in season; the birds are dauntless in search of extra treats (they get plenty).

Oh dear, someone doesn’t like the fact that her ancestors were mired in the slave trade. Hm.

Daily is back in the woods - because it’s bluebell season. Yet again, we need smellovision, because the scent of all the flowers is stunning. Sigh.

Today’s Daily is most definitely also a - and a fernstodon, if there was such a thing. Hm, there’s a thought…

Up into the hills for today’s Daily (I wish)… archaeology? Remains of a hill fort on the hill in the middle distance; otherwise unexplored just here.

Daily is back at the beach for today. But not for the next weeks - the Easter tourists have started arriving and I’ve already been almost forced into a wall twice. Why hire a motor home if you can’t drive it? Hm???

Grrr. Calm, calm, calm…

Daily in winter from Barmouth, where there were a lot of people enjoying half term on a very cold and windy beach. Not in this pic, though.

(This half tree defeated Not My Labrador, who pretended she hadn’t seen it. Tried to eat every other bit of driftwood, mind.)

Daily this weekend should be coming from an extraordinary event, Wonderwool Wales, except I’m not going this year. So here are a couple of pics from previous years (yes, there are sheep as well as LOTS of wool)… and no, it’s not cruel. These are some of the most pampered and loved sheep ever.

A couple of pens with long-wool sheep; some fleeces in the background and a display of yarn made with their wool in the background.

KateCelyn,
@KateCelyn@mastodon.social avatar

I had a, um, discussion with a visitor yesterday who clearly thought that shearing a sheep killed it. She probably still thinks that - left shaking her head, as though I was sadly indoctrinated.

(Probably also believes London is a no-go zone or that being English is virtually illegal, two pieces of similar idiocy I’ve seen recently)

Daily is flying the flag for the start of the week (and please let the fecking Tories get a fecking bashing in the local elections on Thursday, not that they apply to us here - but let them be hammered in their heartlands).
