    @pluralistic My favorite personal rat story from NY happened late at night. I had to save a screaming woman trapped inside a fenced-off trash bin area as scores of rats swarmed the ground below her. She was standing on a broken chair, and trying unsuccessfully to climb over the fence. With great effort, I was able to help her over from the rat-free side by letting her climb on me like a ladder. When I got her to safety, she offered me sex. I declined.

    I don't care what the elites say, I think that items in quotation marks that aren't indicating speech by another person should have the punctuation outside the quotes.

    @katzenberger @tante @aral Me either. I always find it sloppy, or even dodgy, when people who call themselves writers don’t provide citations for their accusatory statements. That should be a simple writerly habit, yet here we are.

    My only quibble here with @aral is that the U.S. recruited nazis directly into U.S. military operations AFTER their defeat, so it wasn’t really their ideology that was the problem. And up until Pearl Harbor, the U.S. govt. seemed pretty ok with sitting on the sidelines during what happened to the Jews. 🤷🏻‍♂️

    There is a shelter near Denver that currently has around 200 huskies waiting for adoption.

    @rasterweb Wauwatosa! I was born in the now torn-down county hospital that was there. (It was in the same location as the newly rebuilt hospital.) Spent my childhood in West Allis. I’d often run to the art museum and back in my late teen years. You just brought me on a journey through time.
