I need some new science fiction to read, who has some suggestions? I don't like military sci-fi. For reference, my favorite series is the Expanse, I also enjoyed Scalzi's Collapsing Empire, I love Robert Charles Wilson's books. I mostly enjoy space operas and unique stories about technology, for example I really liked the recent book Mountain in the Sea about AI and intelligent octopus. Suggestions from the awesome Bookstodon community? @bookstodon

People get so cranky at Black folk for pointing out the irrefutable evidence that Biden's Covid policies got a lot of people long Covid, and caused a lot of other people to die of Covid unnecessarily.

You can get mad at me. You can yell "Trump is worse!" until your voice gets hoarse. I'm not talking about Trump. I'm talking about pandemic decisions made during this administration.

To be clear. Not disagreeing with the main premise. Joe could be better, absolutely. He could always be more progressive, but for an old white guy he's done all right.

@Alice my biggest hurdle in practice is not the smarts, it's the habits of decades.

I'm all in. And working hard on it, but I slip up on the regular out of habit. I will correct myself every time and keep putting the effort in.

How much does it cost Sound Transit to opearate the fair compliance program, including staffing? How much money have they recovered from the "fare evaders" since they reinstated the program back in November? In Japan, I think nothing when a train conductor comes to my car and starts inspecting the tickets. Here, as soon as I see a fare enforcement person onboard, I feel like vomiting.

to the rescue. The float arm in our bedroom bathroom broke last night. We're broke at the moment, so I tried to fix it with 3d printing. I designed the part in and used some leftover m3 nuts and bolts from a previous 3d printer update to join it together. It took 3 iterations before I got it to fit. And even then I forgot to give enough width for the top bolts, but it worked anyway because the two halves clamped it down tightly enough.

    I've never applied for unemployment before... I've been fortunate to have not needed it or gotten work in a reasonable time frame.

    However the industry (tech) isn't doing great right now. So I might need to..

    Any downsides to it? I mean we all pay into it right?

    As someone who uses "folks" a lot because I grew up in a hick Alberta village of 600 people (named "Mannville", no less), I love the fact it's been widely adopted as inclusive language.

    Not least because that usage would've irritated a notable chunk of said hick village back in the day.
