I am so hideously over tired right now.

Taco_lad,
@Taco_lad@aus.social avatar

@jpm kind of?

Absolutely wired on the adrenalin and cortisol that is keeping me awake for keeping the kids safe.

The 3 yr old nearly poked my eye out waving their arm about when I told them to lie still and go to sleep, so they copped an unusually fierce growling at because I'm so tired and wired and the pain and loss of vision set me off, so they promptly burst into tears.
We have both apologised profusely for upsetting each other and they have fallen asleep happy. Noe I need to wind down again

Taco_lad,
@Taco_lad@aus.social avatar

@jpm kid understood, knew it wasn't them, it was me.

We've had conversations where I am completely candid about how tired I am and how little things make me have big feelings when I am tired and I ask if they can help me by working as a team to get into bed and have everything done more easily , and they do. They are good kids

Went to Sunbury to pickup a Pixel 5 and the owner didn’t even bother to reset it and remove the phone from their Google account. Ended up being a 1hr process because they had no idea what their Google password is and had to ask a relative. They aren’t even that old, younger than me yet had no concept that giving me their phone full of data is a Bad Idea.

It's strange to me when I see people get upset about people doing good deeds, and posting it online.

"They're just doing it for attention!"

Yeah, so what? I'd much rather see people doing nice things for attention, than the people who do mean pranks or wasting food. A good deed is still good, even if it's done for the wrong reasons.

Taco_lad,
@Taco_lad@aus.social avatar

@RickiTarr a good deed done and shared, encourages others to do the same, some people need good examples to follow.

"It is clear that the predominant reason for low charge rates in the ACT is a failure to properly and appropriately investigate sexual offences," the report said.

The ACT needs to finally ditch the systemically incompetent AFP and create its own fit-for-purpose police service.

Some say there are two types of concrete – cracked and on the brink of cracking. But what if when concrete cracked, it could heal itself?

The science behind it is called a ‘biofiber’, and it could revolutionize construction.

@TheConversationUS so, like hotmix roman concrete with bits of quicklime still locked away inside that react with water ingress to seal the cracks? Everything old is new

timrichards, to auspol

Well argued. The current situation with housing is unsustainable.

"Decades of federal and state governments of both stripes walking away from public housing, drunk on failed neoliberal policy of outsourcing affordable housing to the private sector, has produced the current crisis."

Michael Pascoe: Negative gearing to change – it’s ‘the vibe’ https://www.thenewdaily.com.au/finance/2024/04/24/michael-pascoe-negative-gearing

Taco_lad,
@Taco_lad@aus.social avatar

@timrichards any government that thinks its a good idea to hand the keys to the supply of an investment vehicle to those that would invest in it, should be considered actively malicious.

Govt:"Private investors will build new housing, we aren't building any more"

Private investors: "So if we don't build houses, OUR houses go up in value, and we don't have to do shit? Score! "

Govt :"yes this is good somehow"

Taco_lad,
@Taco_lad@aus.social avatar

@stufromoz @timrichards plus, yanno, the bit of loosening the requirements for loan minimum downpayments while pumping the first home buyers grant (with few limitations) into the money multiplier machine that is bank home loans...

I couldn't invent a better way to pour money from the sweat of one generation into the pockets of the previous one if I tried.
