I still miss the yearly IKEA catalogue. I quite enjoyed it as event and browsing it, even as PDF.
The website is just not the same.

YasminGalaxygir,

@cdamian wait, it's gone?

YasminGalaxygir,

@cdamian oh. My gosh, thank you for sharing!

@noellemitchell It's the same here. I feel guilty just looking at my App. So many beautiful entertaining and educational podcasts and I only find the time to listen to 3 of them weekly. But nontheless, let the subscription continue!

Excuse me? Ciabatta bread was invented in 1982? The 80's? I always thought this bread was at least 180 or more years old. And now you too know that little fun fact about bread.

Sad news from Morocco. A strong earthquake of magnitude 6.8 has struck central Morocco, killing at least 820 people, the country's interior ministry says.
The epicentre was in the High Atlas Mountains, 71km (44 miles) south-west of Marrakesh, at a depth of 18.5km, the US Geological Survey said.

The quake struck at 23:11 local time (22:11 GMT) on Friday. There was a 4.9 aftershock 19 minutes later.

Happy friday everybody, Jummuah Mubarak. When I was in Morocco, I visited the village of Setti Fatma. Named after a woman, this is her story: Setti Fatma was the ascetic daughter of a well known scholar of his time. People remembered her as a righteous and agreed-upon guardian of religious traditions.

She was a bright student of the scholars of her time. Her distinguished intellect emerged in various jurisprudential sciences. Even more, her enthusiasm and energy qualified her to teach.

Ap. 10 % of Georgia’s population is , and until 1951 there were 2 mosques in Tbilisi. Then the Blue Mosque was demolished by the Communist government. Seeing that the Shia community had nowhere to go, Jumah Mosque opened its doors to them, making it one of the only mosques in the world where the two sects worship together. Until 1996, a black curtain was used to divide the mosque between Sunnis and Shiites during prayer, but today, the two pray side by side.

And then there is my tumblr & Instagram. Well it's nice to have different options. I would not like to have everything in one place.

There are many beautiful mosques arround the world but the one which I realy would like to pray on a sunny afternoon is this Hamidiye Cami in Kirsehir. The concept of praying in a quiet forest on green grass but sheltered from the elements is something generations befor us did not see as something special but in todays time and environment it is.

I am (as always) late to the party by discovering authors that everybody else knows about already. Ah well, here is my latest find: Andreas Brandhorst, author of just about 26 books in the last 20 years. What an underdog. His sci-fi is so well written and creative, once I started to read I was instantly absorbed in his world. I don't know if any of his books are translated into english, but if you can read german and love good sci-fi, give it a try.

"The site [...] elicits nostalgia for people who grew up online in the early 2000s — a colorful safe haven where kids learned how to code, spell, and do math while taking care of adorable virtual pets. But underneath Neopia’s rainbow-streaked fictional world was an open secret: for at least five years, the company employed business practices directly connected to the Church of Scientology."

Yesterday I went to my first meeting with a newly formed womans group with the goal to foster mindfullness and positivity among woman. We met at a "Schrebergarten" a little garden patch with a cabin that you rent from the city. Everybody bought some food and we even invited a beautician for those that wanted to be pampered. A great day and I met 2 new woman with those I hope to meet more often this year. It all started with a WhatsApp group and I hope we build a cummunity frome here.

A convocation adress by the late Andrian Tan (31.03.1966 - 08.07.2023)
"Forget about your life expectancy. After all, it’s calculated based on an average. And you never, ever want to expect being average.
What you should prepare for is mess. Life is not fair. Life happens, and you have no control over it. Good and bad things happen to you day by day, hour by hour. Don’t expect anything. Just live."

Did you know the Arabic language has an “abjad” system and not an alphabet? The Arabic abjad is made up of 28 letters, written from right to left.
Written Arabic uses an abjad instead of an alphabet. An abjad writing system is a form of writing in which each letter stands for a consonant and not a vowel. The vowels are indicated with vowel marks rather than a full letter. 1/

Tomorrow is the 27th of June, Muslims arround the world celebrate Arafat. On this day Allah forgives the sins of this year and the past. People fast on this day and seek blessings & forgiveness from Allah and prepare for Eid al-Adha.
Arafat is also a mountain located in the city of Makkah, Saudi Arabia. The mountain is known as the Mountain of Recognition and plays a vital role during Hajj. On the Day of Arafat Muslims on Hajj travel from Mina to Arafat before the festival of sacrifice.

I got reminded (because of my own hashtag) of a list a friend was keeping with books she'd seen people read on the London tube, using them as an idea collection to bring more randomness in her own reading. Need to ask her, whether her list is still alive.

    The Penultimate Truth
    Philip K. Dick

Part of the SF Masterworks Collection. Despite being nearly 60 years old the narrative around the manipulation of the truth feels incredibly prescient. Wondering whether David Whitaker had read it before he came up with story The Enemy of the World.

    YasminGalaxygir,

@Laking86 @bookstodon funny enough, I never warmen up to HG but Dirk Gently is one of my favorites. And "the long dark teatime of the soul" is so entertaining yet crazy, it does not quite reach the Detective Agency in my oppinion
