started asking people to leave reviews on the zines a couple of months ago and it's really fun to see them come in https://store.wizardzines.com/products/the-pocket-guide-to-debugging

especially liked this review which really captures how I write the zines to be used (they're not really for learning from scratch, they're for filling in knowledge gaps for something that you're already using)

b4ux1t3,
@b4ux1t3@hachyderm.io avatar

@b0rk your zines fill common knowledge gaps, which is an invaluable resource to have.

There are a million and a half resources for beginners out there (and that is a good thing!), and "experts" generally know where in the docs to look.

Your zines fill the gaps between beginner and expert really, really well, and that's why I love them to bits.

We'll probably start out by wiring up the die rolls we modeled with the random table types we modeled.

This statistic is a bit scary. 56% of users are working with ASP.NET Core. That seems like it's down.

@khalidabuhakmeh I would assume it just means that there are more people making applications in things like MAUI, Avalonia, or just for the console.

    I've never much cared for . I'll admit it's purely from early experiences with it, and a year of my life spent on a contract attempting to secure an instance (which was hampered more by ridiculous requirements than wp itself).

    That said, I'm seriously considering going from static generation to wordpress, purely for the implementation.

    Are there other good ActivityPub-aware platforms? Preferably with flavored editing.

    dangoodin, to random

    It should be clear now that it was and remains a catastrophic mistake for people to view privately owned social media platforms as any kind of public resource. People didn't know better a decade ago. They have no excuse now.

    b4ux1t3,
    @b4ux1t3@hachyderm.io avatar

    @JoBlakely @bjn @dangoodin it's a pretty well-documented bit of psychology that folks are more likely to engage with outrage/negativity than the alternatives.

    I'm not saying it's always true for everyone, but the sheer success of that kind of content speaks to the general truth of that psychology.

    Edit: and it could well be that the atmosphere of the fediverse is leading to a difference here. I, too, get a lot of engagement on positivity and beauty.

    Reading the thread on the SDK support for and honestly, the level of entitlement and hostility in there over 8 is making me sad.

    Quick note for everyone, if you ever feel like writing a post like some of the ones in there, then here's how to do it.

    Don't

    It's just that simple.

    If anyone from the Rider/Resharper team reads this, then remember you are awesome and Rider is brilliant product because of your efforts

    b4ux1t3,
    @b4ux1t3@hachyderm.io avatar

    @khalidabuhakmeh @dazfuller I mean, shoot, the program still works with Dotnet 8. Simply installing the new sdk isn't going to break existing code, and it's not going to break the Rider experience with existing code.

    Source: I spend about half the year on betas so I can test our app to make sure it doesn't break in glorious and unexpected ways. I use rider (full release rider) the whole time, because I'm not using new features.

    The great paradox of laundry is that you put the clothes in the washer, but you have to wear pants to go to the laundromat. So what do you even do

    b4ux1t3,
    @b4ux1t3@hachyderm.io avatar

    @oblomov @mcc this isn't specific to Italy, most developed countries have a fairly high percentage of houses with their own clothes washer/dryer.

    I've never actually lived in an apartment or house that didn't have it's own (though the apartment was a communal washer/dryer), across three continents and six countries.

    That isn't to say it's a failing to not have them, mind you.

    SwiftOnSecurity, (edited ) to random

    There’s something fishy about recent claims cars are spying on SMS messages on your phone. You can sue for anything and I’ve found no evidence this happens. Anyone have proof? Not just pages referencing others saying this happens.

    b4ux1t3,
    @b4ux1t3@hachyderm.io avatar

    @SwiftOnSecurity there's a few court cases going on over it, and a judge recently ruled that it's not illegal, so, even if it isn't happening, they're setting legal precedent to let it happen in the future.

    b4ux1t3,
    @b4ux1t3@hachyderm.io avatar

    @SwiftOnSecurity The case I linked to is specific about them copying SMS messages from infotainment devices and shipping those messages to a central system.

    That's not bad design or an incidental bug.

    b4ux1t3,
    @b4ux1t3@hachyderm.io avatar

    @SwiftOnSecurity Sorry, it's not in that doc, since that's the dismissal. https://cdn.ca9.uscourts.gov/datastore/memoranda/2023/11/07/22-35451.pdf

    "a group of Washington residents allege that automobile manufacturers recorded and intercepted their private text messages and call logs from their cellphones when they connected the phones to their respective vehicle’s on-board infotainment system."

    No mention here of shipping off the data. I know that there is mention of it, but I don't have the cycles to track down the right doc.

    b4ux1t3,
    @b4ux1t3@hachyderm.io avatar

    @schizanon @SwiftOnSecurity This is my concern. Like, even if they don't ship the data off to a central system, it's a matter of time (which has already passed, by the way, people have been cracking cars for years now) until folks start cracking into cars directly (or, uh, remotely😱) and siphoning off messages. If I don't agree to have my messages synced to my car, don't sync messages to my car.

    FreakyFwoof, (edited ) to random

    Right. There's been a lot of talk about and it's place here on the fediverse of late.
    Whether you're blind, deaf or sighted, I'd be curious to not only have you fill out the relevant choice, but feel free to respond to this with more detail if you like.
    Do you make use of, benefit from or even find alt-text useful, whether for images or audio?

    b4ux1t3,
    @b4ux1t3@hachyderm.io avatar

    @FreakyFwoof I'm gonna be honest, I'm surprised and suspicious of the results.

    I'm sighted and do not get any tangible benefit from alt text, and I honestly can't believe that many sighted people do.

    It feels like sighted folks just saying they benefit to legitimize using alt text.

    The thing is, it's already legitimate. I always provide alt text, because I know it is useful to some people, specifically folks who can't see well. It's not useful to me, but I don't toot at me.

    b4ux1t3,
    @b4ux1t3@hachyderm.io avatar

    @FreakyFwoof Yeah, there are the (I think) obvious benefits of "Generally making more information more open", I just didn't take that as the intent of the poll.

    In that regard we all benefit from every bit of accessibility. But that makes the question kinda moot.

    Anyway, I hope I didn't come across as antagonistic here, I just found the results odd.

    if you're an infrequent command line user -- what text editor do you use if you need to occasionally edit a file on the command line (other than vim/emacs)?

    The only problem with following hashtags and having them piped directly to your feed. . .is that it makes your feed either a ghost town (if you follow some niche tags) or a firehose akin to the federated feed (if you follow something "generic").

    Some examples:

    I follow some ham radio tags, and I barely get enough content to justify opening the app on the john in the morning.

    Follow TTRPG?

    I'm not a developer. I'm not a . I'm not a developer. Not a developer.

    I'm just a developer. Tell me what you want built, what you want fixed, and I will do it. You're using laravel? CGI? Assembly?
