Tasmanian, but only recently...Gippsland was getting too busy 😄

Day 19 - Marseille. Wow, what a city! Absolutely love it here 😁 Tjis is somewhere I could see myself living very easily.

@dropbear

What a great part of the World. I love south west France. I have not spent much time in Marseilles, but Toulouse and Carcassonne are great, and the Camargue is breathtaking.

Enjoy your trip 🙂

What’s the scariest Australian animal?
(Set 1/2)

chestas,
@chestas@aus.social avatar

@dgar

Humans are pretty scary, especially One Nation loons

There's that paralysis tick. 😱

When and why did the habit of starting sentences with "Not gonna lie..." start?

chestas,
@chestas@aus.social avatar

@NickSchwanck

To tell the truth, I'm not sure.

Honestly, though, it is annoying.

Grand Master Samy Shoker came to our little club yesterday to play a group of us simultaneously. We managed to score one draw against him (me) which was better than his simul in Hobart the day before when he won all his games.
Samy was a great gentleman, and was great with sharing his knowledge, especially with the kids who were thrilled to be playing and talking (even laughing) with him.

We have a chess Grand Master visiting Launceston today. Samy Shoker from Egypt is on a working holiday in Australia and is spending some time in our beautiful state. He'll come to our club this evening 🙂

Had a BAD hypo last night. I felt like time was pliable. Like one second was three hours or three hours was one second.

Hello! I want to do a Spooky Picture Prompt! So, find a picture in your camera roll that would represent the phrase:

Last Picture on the Camera Roll

This should be spooky, but completely up to your own interpretation. Here's one from me, with weird eclipse light.

chestas,
@chestas@aus.social avatar

@RickiTarr

This is a light installation in Hobart, Tasmania. Some said it was inspirational, some thought it magnificent. I found it a little macabre.

I know! Or some laser weapon 😱

Ok, Mastodon - I have a question I need help with.

What are some classic stories (novels, poems, anything really) set in libraries, or about books? 📚

Is there anything really famous?

Please RT to boost my reach!

Thanking you kindly.

Inkheart by Cornelia Funke?

Mark Lawrence wrote The Book That Never Burned set in a library, or libraries.

I see the Happy Thatcher is dead Day posts and I must say they don't make me happy.

Don't get me wrong, I celebrated with the rest of the sane world when she died. But now I would prefer her to be an unmentionable so those of us who lived through her evil times don't have to think of them again

chestas, to music
@chestas@aus.social avatar

The problem with sticking with music that you know and like, is missing out on stuff you might like.

I've just discovered The Coral who were just getting known when I was planning emigrating. Everything kind of went on hold then for me.

Met this little guy last week by the Emu River near Burnie.

This is a Tasmanian Pademelon, a small marsupial which can now only be found here in Tasmania. There are other Pademelons in Australia and this species used to be on the mainland until humans decided to destroy them there.

This particular fella was probably young, because it was even small for a Pademelon.

chestas,
@chestas@aus.social avatar

@largess

Yes, roadkill is terrible, but on the mainland Pademelons were destroyed by the introduction of predatory foxes and huge land clearance. The same land mismanagement that is seeing the possibility of the extinction of Koala in the near future. At least the population of Pademelons is stable here.
