So here's the thing with 's new feature:
It's not about Microsoft now suddenly spying on you. They can probably already do that if they want in a much easier way without you knowing.

So please be more realistic!

The far more severe concern in the age of work is when person A shares their screen and person B having Recall enabled, thereby "recalling" the other person's screen without person A knowing.

So it is a privacy concern between people!

Still a nightmare if some other data kraken like discord decides to scan you data.

One of the most useful extensions for Firefox (actually LibreWolf) is Sidebery. Finally I can decrease a mess of tabs and make them structured.

There are a lot of features, but most useful are:

  • Rules for automatically moving tabs into "panels" (a grouping mechanism similiar to workspaces).
  • Foldeable tree view.
  • Rules for openning tabs in specific containers (combines well with container proxy and multi-account).
  • Integration with bookmarks.

@abcdw
what i am missing is "move tab to folder" or something. I started today with 202 uncatecorized tabs and don't want to drag them all. Did i miss this?

I contributed to GNOME Shell! It's just a one-liner, but still, it's a contribution!

I added touchpad gestures so you can now change workspaces not just with a 3-finger swipe, but also a 4-finger swipe (or any amount of fingers larger than that, if you're feeling really adventurous).

#BitRitter now has support to open links from the detail page (or copy them). Also, Custom fields are shown on the detail page.
To smooth the overall experience, i got a basic search filter working, so you don't have to scroll to your desired #VaultWarden entry.

Check out the latest main at https://codeberg.org/Chfkch/bitritter .
If you try it out on your #LinuxMobile device and the list/detail-ratio is off, please open an issue (preferrably with screenshot attached) so i fix it.

I generally like but I think every project developer should be forced to use it on a Raspberry Pi with 4GB RAM... had to build Vaultwarden (https://github.com/dani-garcia/vaultwarden) on one, and man,,, after 15 minutes compilation is no longer running because the device went OOM and now is so hot the fan is louder that a datacenter server...

Just to be clear, I think this is a Rust problem, not a project problem.

chfkch,
@chfkch@ruhr.social avatar

@mo8it
There are several cases where cross compilation does not work or is at least a huge hassle. I don't know about vaultwarden though because i run it on x86.
If you want i can compile it on my ARM machine, but i wouldn't trust some internet random to provide for security binaries.

  • WiFi

Do any of you know of such a device? I guess is not it?

News from :
https://codeberg.org/Chfkch/bitritter
Account creation is now possible via the app, no need to store credentials on disk.
This was a huge step towards the release of the first beta.
Basic usage is covered in my eyes, now i have to polish things up a bit and test integration in distros and on devices.
Got a lot of help from the community and the channel.
If you want to try now, hit me up if you have problems.

Are you experienced with GTK and Rust ? :gnome: ❤️ :rust:

We are looking to contract someone to work on the new GNOME Password Manager 🔑

We want it to become a core/default app and help secure millions of users.

You'll be working with the GNOME Foundation, a non-profit dedicated to building emancipatory technologies for everyone.

Please send resume / portfolio to stf@gnome.org

Boosts welcome :boost_love:

Making progress with . Slow, but steady.
Today i implemented a password input to unlock the / vault, so we can soon remove a part of the credentials.toml (which was just a workaround for faster testing) and make the app safer.
feels nicer the more i get to work with it.

Sadly my ARM CI did not work as nicely as the x86, so i can't package for my phone easily.

goldboot | Immutable infrastructure for the desktop! - by fossable

https://github.com/fossable/goldboot

"In the approach, you choose a starting template containing an absolutely minimal install of your favorite OS. Then you create provisioners which are the scripts that add all of your customizations on top of the template. From these pieces, goldboot builds a machine image ready to be deployed to real hardware."

What sucks a lot about the whole situation is that the nixcon na and nixcon eu teams are different people and the people currently planning nixcon eu were not involved with the sponsorship decisions for nixcon na but everyone (understandably) now thinks that we repeated the mistake..

Ideen? @mastobikes_de @fedibikes

At work I have to do a lot of development in an on browser based IDE, which means no nice movement shortcuts like I'm used to, and moving around the code is painfully slow. The IDE does support movements though, which I've been trying as a 'better than nothing' solution, and yeah, it's still hard. I don't think I'll ever get used to the logic of: if "h" is left/back, then "j" is down, and not up. Arghhh.

any nix folks have an idea how to debug this? direnv with a use flake .envrc file fails on macOS, at line 3331 of "eval" with an unexpected semicolon

edit: full output https://gist.github.com/fasterthanlime/60b93196e0854e62e3561dfb72cc1970

edit 2: the same exact flake + direnv set up works on Linux right now.

edit 3: re-running '/opt/homebrew/bin/direnv allow' fixes PATH (absolute path needed since homebrew gets yeeted out of PATH)

edit 4: nix print-dev-env generates the mountain of bash I'm looking to debug right now!

I write test cases because testing is mind-numbing and boring and I prefer handing that over to comrade computer.

But, hey, if you‘d rather do this youself, as I can see in repositories, who am I to deny your fun?💁🏻‍♂️

chfkch,
@chfkch@ruhr.social avatar

@icing
I think writing test cases helps understanding the process. Or at least helps verifying that you know the process. But often a developer alone cannot write cases for non-technical aspects.
Sure, it is tedious, but if done right, it enables some kind of gamification in you work. Try to reach that state and you will be rewarded.
Don't just write tests so you pass coverage 😁
