Some insight into what happened in the minutes before the Key Bridge collapsed.

Cool, direct, urgent, successful. Maybe not a college degree or a 6-figure salary among them—and they used their training & experience at the most critical, high-pressure moment to save lives. All day, every day-that happens & we don't see it. That's your 'deep state? Just in Port of Baltimore, 45 cargo container ships come & go every 24 hours. 16,000 ships a year. They require all this guidance all the time (and US has 8 LARGER ports). Each ship with 5,000 containers loaded & unloaded. Not to mention The 8 construction workers on the bridge—-patching potholes in the middle of the night, so the road stays maintained, at a time that reduces inconvenience to us (and yes, is easier for them too because of low traffic). Every night...
Every night, 5 or 6 days a week, men & women just like them do that dangerous work on interstates & bridges in all 50 states. ... Here's the moment: An officer who closed one of the approaches says on radio...Can we notify the construction workers? Can we call the supervisor?' The officer was ready to drive out & warn the workers when someone on the radio — seconds later — said, The bridge is down. The whole bridge. That unnamed officer had been immediately thinking about how to save those guys out on the bridge—workers just like him. Thanks. - Thanks to all these folks who make the world run, and run safely 99% of the time, and work with skill, grace, clear-headedness in invisible but essential jobs. Even as disaster unfolded Tuesday after midnight, they were at work.

MAGAs are labeling DEI as "Didn't Earn It," which is wild because in reality, generating historic wealth through 2 billion acres of stolen land from Native Americans, enslaving Black people for 300 years, banning Asian immigration until 1965, & banning women from financial access til 1974 — all without paying a single red cent in reparations or restitution — is the living breathing example not earning it.

🤔Nothing confirms the statistic that most white Americans have zero Black friends more than seeing whole newspaper articles call a "fade," by far the most common, most generic, simplest haircut that's worn by most Black US citizens, a "Travis Kelce."🤦🏿‍♂️

Even with fancier Black men's haircuts, most start with a basic fade, and get more complicated from there.

The fade is so common and so foundational that it's how Black barbers are judged. It's like asking an artist to draw a perfect circle.

One of the worst experiences I had in high school in was being the only black guy and the English teacher had the class read, out loud, from Huckleberry Fin. Each time someone had to say “Ner Jim”, the kids would put extra emphasis on “Ner”. Every time. Teacher did nothing.

In college, I majored in Computer Science. The freshman class had a 70% failure rate. My advisor warned me against playing too much basketball and to focus in class.

Let’s not forget resumes with black sounding names against white sounding names with felonies or less prestigious schools get the same callbacks.

A white person either a felony is seen as equal to a black person.

Ditto with differing levels of education

In essence, a tax on being Black.

Whoever decided that Alexa should preface her first answer of the day with “Good morning, Max,” is a fool.

Don't delay confirming whether you got my instructions right and doing what I asked. Not even by two seconds. Not by one. Acknowledge, then do it. Start the timer. Turn the lights on. Play music.

If I wanted small talk, I'd eschew the self-checkout at the grocery store.

(I never eschew the self-checkout anywhere. I would've done self-checkout on our mortgage if it was possible.)
