Today is and I have some cerebral, cinematic ambient industrial experimental stuff for you.

Two albums represent some of the hardest struggles I've ever been through. First, music to find reasons to live. Second, music to find reasons to fight.

Boost, please? Listen if you can. If you want to buy, today is a good day for artists on

Friends, tomorrow is going to be bad for me. I am aware, and am prepared enough to handle it I hope.

This coming month will also be very hard.

There are traditions I never believed in and have resented being forced to participate in for my whole life.

I'm not doing that anymore. I'm only going to live a life that if it is within my control - I won't spend any more time pretending to be OK with things I'm not OK with - especially for the sake of people who do not return the effort.

debonairetoast,
@debonairetoast@musicians.today avatar

Tomorrow is a holiday that has always upset me as to why it exists. It is very trendy to be against it now but it was not when I was a child and that's when I made these decisions.

Next month is worse, and in effort to be respectful I won't insult the faithful. But I assert my independence from participating in holidays that I don't believe in, and will no longer be doing that one either.

I don't care if it hurts others for me to stop doing things that have always hurt me. It's not my problem.

realized today a large part of what i've had to do for the past 2 years is try to build a band.

not being able to get it done, build the "dream team" that can get along and get shit done.. that's taken a major toll on my mental health.

revelations that come to light when one realizes "i can't form a band with this" can lead to "i also can't be friends with this".

all i needed was people who could respect me and cooperate. it wasn't that big of an ask, was it?

well.. it was.

debonairetoast,
@debonairetoast@musicians.today avatar

i know what i can do musically, and i went to school to be able to carry not just my own weight, but the weight of polishing and publishing the product.

i know how to do more than just make sounds, and really struggled to get any kind of respect from people who positioned themselves as collaborators or helpers.

that's been the biggest struggle - but i'm going about it differently now. i've erased all thoughts of style, aesthetic, and yes.. even prestige or access.

debonairetoast,
@debonairetoast@musicians.today avatar

literally the only requirement at this point is "can make music, has longstanding demonstrated respect for me"

fkn hell. i'm just not into trying to teach people to see me clearly anymore.

their sight's gone bad and that's not my problem. they can go work that out on their own. i'm no karmic optometrist.

i think i have a songwriting friend enlisted, let's see if we can get off the ground creatively. some day soon. all sense of urgency died this year and i'm just letting it float now.

debonairetoast,
@debonairetoast@musicians.today avatar

@etherdiver trying to form a band has taught me i'm not sure some of those "friendships" were any kind of a relationship in the first place.

but i think having known someone for 20+ years might help. the one i'm thinking of we used to live under the same roof and have been through a kind of hell together. somehow survived that for the better. i think it might be worth exploring.

at any rate, it won't ruin our friendship to try. that i do know.

Is it just me, or does it seem like every freaking news organization on the planet now prefaces every other piece with “Here is what to know about…”? Fuck that. An accurate description would be “Here is what we know about…”

debonairetoast,
@debonairetoast@musicians.today avatar

@timbray when they phrase it "here is what to know about..." they're saying.. "here is what we were paid to say, by the people and businesses we're talking about"

if y'all haven't figured out yet that the buy of Twitter was always part of a social engineering project.. you're missing a lot of subtext to what's going on in international relations.

social engineering on large scale is hugely expensive, and is usually paid in both cash and blood.

see lots of cash, and fake info?
see lots of blood and social upheaval?

connect them, and notice how the cash and the fake info are seemingly disconnected from specific nations or governing bodies.

notice.

I applied for a new job last night on indeed, and it required a "management skills test" in addition to the application itself. This included a question about how to best coerce your employees to "return to office" even though most them are working remotely and being productive anyway. Like, what the fresh hell is this?

And I should note that it included absolutely zero response options for "don't be an ableist bitch and at least continue hybrid work to enable people with disabilities and especially vulnerable to COVID to keep their jobs." This wasn't the org's fault, as this is like a standardized "test" by the platform, but it sure says something to me that this is being ideologically inserted as something they think employers want you to be prepared to do.

May they step on loose Legos and mysteriously bruise their elbow.

debonairetoast,
@debonairetoast@musicians.today avatar

@JoscelynTransient appreciate the effort, that seemed like an unwinnable situation.

similar to when i was doing paid surveys and one came up for driverless cars as a service - i harped on about how this would never be affordable for the disabled and they should stop committing the fallacy of trying to make me accept that it would be for disabled people and elders-- people who would be unsafe traveling unattended and unable to drive the vehicle themselves in an emergency are vulnerable.

Remembering the time I got into an argument with an entire facebook group of "Peace Loving Hippies" which seemed like a fun group until it turned out to be just a bunch of liberal boomers saying things like "I got spanked and I turned out fine."

debonairetoast,
@debonairetoast@musicians.today avatar

@MnemosyneSinger have you ever run into the peace loving hippies who keep their dogs on ropes instead of leashes and kick them for no reason?

what about the peace loving hippies who say things like "they should've just complied" when a cop kills somebody?

When someone is gatekeeper to your career and deliberately locks the gate after lying to you about what is waiting for you on the other side of that gate...

They were never going to let you in.

You gain nothing by maintaining loyalty to that person.

That gate was never opening for you, very likely you were just food for their ego. Made them feel powerful to keep you in their thrall.

debonairetoast,
@debonairetoast@musicians.today avatar

To think, I used to be proud of achieving an accomplishment I never believed I could do.

I used to be proud to have learned what I learned, from that person. It used to seem like a good thing, a very unlikely lucky thing.

Well, it was unlikely. But it was also very unlucky.. which now seems more to pattern of my life. An unlucky pattern I thought this meant I'd finally broken and was free to dream again.

I see it for the nightmare it is, now.
