In C, traditionally, a pointer variable with "no value" has been filled with NULL -- which, depending on your platform, might have wildly different definitions. Sometime's it's #define NULL 0, other times it's #define NULL ((void *)0), or it could be something else entirely, with an unspecified binary representation.

Why is NULL not guaranteed to be equal to 0? Because there are platforms where 0x000000 is a valid memory address, to which a pointer is perfectly allowed to refer. This is why, technically speaking, in the strictest sense, there is no universal value for an invalid pointer. It's implementation-defined because it has to be.'

To be clear -- NULL is always equal to some form of zero in the source code -- but what the compiler emits for a ((void *)0) might or might not be.

À Châtelet il y a un panneau trop cool sur le quai du RER A direction Marne-la-Vallée ; c'est un panneau sur fond noir qui indique les gares desservies avec des lampes (ampoules) allumées ou éteintes. Il est tellement vieux que l'inscription Disneyland a été rajoutée par un petit autocollant.

Over the years, more organizations have started to offer Linux distributions as they realized the potential for profit. While it is not illegal, I personally prefer to stick with Debian and or RHEL/CentOS and its clones. What is your preferred Linux distribution?
