@archesofscratch73 @jimbob I haven't used Ubuntu on the desktop in a few years, but from what I started seeing, and what ivd been reading lately... the data farming is real, even on Ubuntu.

frigginglorious,
@frigginglorious@freeradical.zone avatar

@archesofscratch73 I guess the thing I was reading about was this https://linuxiac.com/ubuntu-once-again-angered-users-by-placing-ads/

But you convinced me. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt!

I'll always appreciate Ubuntu for being the distro that introduced me to linux.

I'll recommned Ubuntu for folks who want to migrate from Windows. But I doubt I'll be returning to that ship anytime soon.

@archesofscratch73 I've actually never tried a straight Debian install yet, but I was shopping for a new distro, and found that Debian has Pipewire configured by default, which I hear greatly reduces frustration with complex audio setups.

I gotta new laptop on pre-order, and I'll be finally migrating from my the world of Macbooks.

My ex was a goth girl who ended up a dental assistant going to shooting ranges with her cop boyfriend. While it’s severely disappointing and terrible, it does show a consistent attachment to death and misery.

@Traiken awwww shit.

Prooove it!

Reminds me, I wrote an awesome breakup song about 7 or 8 years ago. Still haven't recorded it.

I gotta get my studio set up and in a good place to collaborate. But I'd love to try to make music with you sometime.

What do u think of releasing music under the name "Brief Survey"?

frigginglorious,
@frigginglorious@freeradical.zone avatar

@Traiken I feel like there were some vocals in some of your jamuary tracks?

My creative juices kind of flow in spurts. Sometimes I'll be playing music or messing around in a DAW 4 nights a week. But its been a while. But I'm due for a new spurt soon. So I'll be in touch about that!

Just outta curiousity though, whats your DAW of choice?

    frigginglorious,
    @frigginglorious@freeradical.zone avatar

    @rickmurnane hahaha thats actually interesting. My house has a spot in the wall that I was thinking would be perfect to install a bookshelf. Its surrounded by windows, and would be a nice place for a book nook.

    But then I realized that realistically, its full of insulation for a reason.

    I wonder what the R-value of a bunch of paperbacks is?

    Finally, for #Jamuary 31st, a track that feels like the last track of an album, because that's what I'm going to do with all 31 of these. And as I often do, I save some of the best for last.
    It's calm and chaotic, moving and hard-hitting, a sonic feast whipped up in only one day. Enjoy; I know I did.

    Generative "music" for features the Langton's Ant from my "Grow a seed" continuously modifying a drum pattern sent as notes to the Korg Volca Beats. The wobbly functions from another previous prompt control the pitch of arpeggiated tones synthesized using the Sound library which I never used before.

    Perhaps a bit too chaotic for

    A coloured 10x16 grid of tiles is modified by a Langton ant. One row is highlighted and advances downwards each step. One tile colour is brighter than the others which determines the MIDI pattern to send to a Korg Volca Beats which emits percussion sounds. A white comet traces a curvy path to the right of the tile grid. An arpeggio of tones vary in pitch according to the movement of the comet.

    So there's an undocumented Niagara particle system feature for using waterbody objects from the water plugin.

    All the tutorials are from 2021, and apparently things have changed a little. You use a script module to set it up, easy enough.

    That creates an opportunity to pass it a WaterBody.

    That gives you this in your particle system, where you can specify, say, reading it from a user parameter.

    Except that's not what USED to be there. It's a different set of options from 2020.

    frigginglorious,
    @frigginglorious@freeradical.zone avatar

    @Craigp your journey is a long and confusing one. I have no answers but I love that it's documented all the same. Rock on!

    the hawthorn sauce is actually a jelly that did not set properly and I never bothered to re-boil it or add more pectin. If this works omg i have so much meatball sauce on hand, all the jelly making pays of big time

    frigginglorious,
    @frigginglorious@freeradical.zone avatar

    @piggo meatbal berry jelly?

    frigginglorious,
    @frigginglorious@freeradical.zone avatar

    @piggo A meat and berry sauce sounds intriguing. Would you serve it over rice or something? Or eat it like apple sauce? Or spread it on toast?

    Fun fact: My home state of Wisconsin grows somewhere around 1/6th of all the cranberries in the world. Yet somehow I never see them at farmer's markets, and they are difficult to find on grocery store shelves.

    But interestingly enough, Ireland grows the most bands named "Cranberries"

    Hi everyone! I'm trying to get more people signed up for Games for Blind Gamers 3! We still have less sign ups than the 2nd, so if you can help spread the word about this jam it'd be greatly appreciated! It's all about making blind accessible video games! https://itch.io/jam/games-for-blind-gamers-3

    frigginglorious,
    @frigginglorious@freeradical.zone avatar

    @Ericbomb so is that mostly just audio-only games?
    Oh I spose there's haptic feedback in a controller, too. I'm ignorant of what a blind accessible game could all entail.

    Audio game design sounds like a bitchin challenge tho.

    I’m on the hunt for more feel-good tv and movies. Starting to run out of steam on the heavy, dark, gritty stuff.

    I’ve recently been enjoying Ted Lasso, Shrinking, and Acapulco.

    Anyone have some good recommendations for me? Doesn’t matter what streaming service it’s on.

    frigginglorious,

    @danbetcher I just watched the movie "yesterday" from 2022 or 2023, and thats about as feel good as I get.

    Enjoyable as fuck!
