The proclaiming that people can be baptized and serve as godparents is absolutely not a "major step for trans inclusion". However "progressive" appears to be, the church is still an oppressive institution.

I still question why anyone who considers themself progressive would want to remain a member of the church.

While I'm whining about stupid things demanded by online forms, today I filled out an online HR form that demanded that I choose a "legal gender" (male or female) as well as a "gender identity" (where I am allowed to be nonbinary). I'm not filling in the legal gender field because just fuck off. They have all my PII -- no need to know my "legal" gender to identify me.

I really hate pointless demands for gender on forms like that.

Microsoft Word’s 40th birthday last week: https://insider.microsoft365.com/en-us/blog/microsoft-word-turns-40

In connection with my current sideline working as an Expert Witness for Uncle Sam in a big litigation - https://www.tbray.org/ongoing/When/202x/2023/07/24/Workin-for-the-Man - I spend many hours every week writing, reviewing, and editing huge densely-structured 100+-page Word docs. And, you know, it’s basically good software. (Am I ever going to get flamed for saying that.)

Of course, you first have to teach it the core Emacs navigation control-key shortcuts.

Forty years? Wow, I feel old. The first word processor I used, during high school, ran off floppy disks on the family Commodore 64...

Nowadays, I avoid Word and other Microsoft products whenever possible. But to each their own.

in 1983, "The War of the Worlds," a Halloween episode of the radio series The Mercury Theatre on the Air which was directed and narrated by Orson Welles was performed and broadcast live over the CBS Radio Network.

The episode is famous for inciting a panic by convincing some members of the listening audience that a Martian invasion was taking place.

I’ve learned, against my desires, that many straight men who have sleep apnea refuse to use a CPAP machine because ‘they are not weak’. I know this from real life people (and online people). First of all, what the hell is that toxic idea? Second, you all need to lean into it, like this guy https://laughingsquid.com/alien-facehugger-cpap-mask/

(I use a CPAP. Proudly! It keeps me.. alive!)

funcrunch,
@funcrunch@me.dm avatar

@skinnylatte

I use a CPAP too. But I use noseplugs (euphemistically referred to as "nasal pillows") rather than an Alien facehugger mask.

Guys who think using a CPAP makes them weak should realize that untreated sleep apnea can lead to heart problems, which will literally make them weak (if not dead).
