I'm watching an episode of "Une Famille En Or", the #French version of #FamilyFeud, on YouTube. I'm not using subtitles as I'm trying to learn the language, which I'm much better at understanding written than spoken.
This round asks the contestants to make the sound of a farm animal. It's interesting to see how differently these onomatopoetic words are rendered in French versus English. Can you guess what animal makes each of these sounds? (No cheating if you already know French!)
Thanks to noticing a @wikipedia edit by @11011110 on my watchlist, I realized I should see if this year's #Guggenheim Fellowships had been awarded yet. They had indeed, a week ago. So I created a list of this year's fellows, as I have for the previous two years:
@funcrunch@wikipedia@11011110 Thanks for your service! It'd be really great if that could be sorted by field, institution, etc., rather than having a separate page for each year (so at the "top level" you are forced to pick a year, rather than, say, a field, and then see all awards in that field over time). But I understand that'd be a really big table if they were all in one page. Any ideas on how to resolve this?
#TransLifeline is seeking an Executive Director. The salary range is $127,000-$150,000, and the position is remote. Application deadline is April 26, 2024.
Notice/reminder to #gamers that the eagerly awaited v.1.6 of #StardewValley drops tomorrow. It's 20% off on #Steam through March 21 (but would be worth every penny even at double the full price).
On my way home from seeing @pluralistic speak at the #SanFrancisco Public Library tonight, I noticed that City Hall was lit in orange. I took a few snapshots with my phone. When I got home I looked up the occasion for the orange lighting, and found out that it's for #WorldKidneyDay.
A call from @wikipedia Chief Communications Officer Anusha Alikhan to help close the #GenderGap by bringing more #women editors and articles to #Wikipedia.
Shameful treatment of #Black#Deaf employee #JalonHall by #Google. This company has more money than God; they can afford to provide world-class #accessibility and #accommodations. Not doing so (under the excuse of "confidentiality") is a deliberate choice.
The latest (pointless, #transphobic) #TransAthlete ban has been enacted in #NassauCounty, which is in the #NYC metropolitan area. This kind of thing is why I say there are no "safe states" for marginalized people in the U.S.
#CNBC hosts are baffled that people actually want to live in this #CarFree city in Tempe, #Arizona. "What do you do when your friends come over?" "Are there sufficient dry cleaners?" 🙄
The central bank of any national fiat currency monitors prices of tens of thousands of products and services, all over the country, every month. From that data it estimates the monthly inflation rate (change in the currency's value). Then it intervenes in the money supply as needed to push the inflation towards the yearly goal.
Reading about the upcoming special inspired me to write a @wikipedia article about one of the comedians, #AshaWard, the youngest writer to ever join the staff of #SaturdayNightLive :
Decided to write another @wikipedia article about another comedian featured in the upcoming special: Mx. #DahliaBelle, based in #Portland and known for reading Dave Chappelle for filth for his transphobic "jokes":
"Dark-skinned Black trans girls need the spotlight too... it's unfortunate that was when she got to get her glory, and when we saw her finally get her flowers, it was after death. Sadly, that is just the reality for so many Black trans folks."
Helped get another recently deceased #Black artist honored with a mention on the front page of @wikipedia: Jamaican musician and producer Aston "Family Man" Barrett, best known for his work with Bob Marley and the Wailers.
