@ai6yr Curious as to why ag was affected but not aviation.

Via Obama advisor Eric Schultz:

wow - NYT reporter says their nonstop coverage of ’s age is retribution for not giving their boss an interview:

“It’s A.G. He’s the one who is pissed [that] Biden hasn’t done any interviews and quietly encourages all the tough reporting on his age.”

Interest to hear on our ham radio net about one of our amateurs telling the story of how he had to explain (to a couple of college kids) not only that there was an eclipse happening "why is it so dark... why is everyone out here with those glasses?" AND having to explain to them what an eclipse is. 😬

Yay! Finally, the vehicle won't start at all... rather than being intermittent. New starter or cables needed, likely. Has been spotty for months, but neither I nor my mechanic had been able to diagnose it since it was so intermittent. Intermittent car problems are worse than car problems.

Drat. Kitchen sink has a leak now. I wonder if it's because they loosed everything up but did not remove it. Think I'll fix this one myself, because:
A. doesn't leak unless you fill the non-disposal side of the sink
B. It's just one seal (tightened the P-trap and no issues there now)
C. The plumber charges more per hour than my own hourly rate writing software (!).
D. I will learn plumbing just to avoid the annoyance of dealing with caustic/flakey/expensive plumbers, in this case (easy to avoid this leak - not use that sink until it's fixed). Non-pressurized side of the plumbing system.

@ai6yr Another source of leaks are the holes in the sink for fixtures, air gaps, etc.

Our fiscal host, Open Collective Foundation, is ceasing operations, and changes to how we handle donations are afoot.

Please see the linked post on the information hub or see the thread below.

@ai6yr BTW, did you ever figure out why Flume didn’t flag the original leak?

We installed Flume based on your recommendation and it recently caught a hose bibb that a contractor had left on. The hose and nozzle were attached so not a lot of water was leaking.

The leak was flagged at 2 hours at 0.02 gpm. So we lost about 2.5 gal by the time we were notified.

Stolen plane detected via ELT (emergency beacon) "On December 30, 2023, the victim... received a phone call from Air Force Search and Rescue at about 6:00 p.m., after they received a notification from his Kitfox personal aircraft's emergency location transmitter. This beacon signals a downed aircraft when activated. Jeff advised he was not flying his aircraft and immediately drove to his hangar in North Las Vegas where he discovered the aircraft was not in the hangar. I’m annoyed that PC Gamer says Doom is the “spiritual” start of PC gaming. No, it isn’t.

I don’t deny Doom’s impact, or that it’s become the “mascot” of PC gaming—much like Super Mario has become the “mascot” for console gaming. But to say it’s the “start” of PC gaming, even if spiritually? No, not at all.

Look, Doom itself had a spiritual ancestor: Catacomb 3-D released three years prior.

But PC gaming is not about first person shooters. Other games have been just as impactful as Doom: Zork, Rogue, Castle Wolfenstein, King’s Quest, Wasteland, Civilization, SimCity, Wing Commander—all games released before Doom.

This narrative of Doom being the “start” of PC gaming needs to stop.
