Life is not black and white, there are a lot of colors in the spectrum, and it is better to be at peace with who you are than live a lie to try to please people.
Happy International Asexuality Day I am way too old to excuse myself to anyone about it. If you happen to be bothered by the number of letters in #lgbtqia check that you are not one of those letters.
A compost pile will work its magic with a lot of different kinds of organic matter. Life is diverse and in nature, there is nothing more boring than a mono-crop.
If this is how my day is going, I may just get offline early.
If you pretend to be my pal and then reply with insults because I say I try to avoid certain topics because they invariably result in volatile exchanges, well lets just say it's Toodles time.
There's enough stress in our lives. Sometimes it's healthier to alleviate them when you can.
The most important piece of advice I've gotten in my adult life is "feeling stupid is what it feels like to learn." If you feel stupid, try to respond with curiosity instead of defensiveness.
Proposal: stop saying stuff like "we're destroying the planet" and change it to "they're destroying the planet", to pivot away from self blame when most of us don't have the power to change things and definitely would if we could, and towards laying the blame squarely on the elites propping up the fossil fuel industry so we can focus our collective anger on those actually responsible
The evidence that cars don’t work as primary mass transport in cities is everywhere: traffic jams, air pollution, accident rates, the shocking fraction of city space taken up by parking spaces, safety barriers/bollards etc. This 100 year experiment should be declared over, and we should put proper effort into the systems that HAVE been shown to work and scale: walking, cycling, e-cargo bikes, cheap/accessible/reliable public transport. This “argument” about LTNs is just lazy delay. #LTN#cities
I remembered this morning, that my dislike of being advertised at, buying into brands for the name alone, or brazenly wearing or displaying brands, came from my Mum.
As a kid going shopping with Mum, she would routinely accept carrier bags from shops and then turn them inside out before packing them.
I asked her why, and she said it was because the shops don't pay her to advertise on their behalf.
That seemed really reasonable to me then, and still does now.
Stop blaming strikes for economic damage. Strikes are a logical response to overreach and greed from corporations and the wealthy. If there is resulting economic damage, look to those who drove the workers to strike in the first instance.
Mastodon absolutely needs more journalists. We should not have millions of people boosting one another’s ideas without a solid contingent of people in here professionally trained to vet stories, check facts, and use best practices for sharing news. It is, imo, an urgent issue & critical for the ongoing success of the fediverse #Press
