TurboTax needs a whole expense category for how much hair services cost me before giving 1099 talks….

Edit: yea I know there isn’t one, but it’s totally a shitty pink tax. It’s hundreds of dollars a year.

ithoughtisawa2,

@hacks4pancakes Wouldn't that be "repairs and maintenance"? 😉

ithoughtisawa2,

@philip_cardella @GottaLaff I absolutely don't want to see another Trump presidency, but my fear is that if he loses the nomination and/or the general election, he's going to run again in 2028. It will be an ongoing sh!tshow for years on end.

One way to may sure it never storms is to buy the kit needed to take pictures of lightning 🙃

ithoughtisawa2,

@jerry There are kits? I thought it was just a long exposure and luck

It has been all day with a strong north-westerly gusting here to 80 km/h. On my usual circuit, there is about a 3 km stretch which is basically north-south and today I was travelling north on it. It was quite tough with me in the toughest parts travelling maybe 3 to 4 gears lower than usual and in parts feeling like I’d basically halted. On plus side, it was good exercise and of course in other parts the wind was behind me, making things easy.

ithoughtisawa2,

@mkwadee You got lucky. When I go out on a windy day if it's a headwind on the way out the wind changes direction so it's a headwind on the way home too 😠

sboms are all the rage now, and I’ve been thinking of them like the ingredients on packaged food. Similar to how some foods have “no MSG” or “sugar free”, I wonder how long it will be before we see software with “No Apache Struts” or “Written with only memory-safe languages”…

Was invited to a small, local event this week and was pretty excited about going, and then half the people who organized it came down with covid and cancelled everything. I feel bad for them, but also the (so far covid-free) introvert in me is kinda glad it's not happening. Be careful out there people!

ithoughtisawa2,

@briankrebs both my wife and I got it from one of the 11 other people we had over for Thanksgiving. And both of us just got vaccine boosters at the end of October. We're introverts and this was the first time for us.

Orla is right. It's ok to ride a bike without a helmet - especially if the alternative would be to not ride a bike. Still, I wear mine most days myself - especially since mine has lights integrated.

    ithoughtisawa2,

@osma If local laws require the use of seatbelts in cars, then they should require helmets for cyclists.

@jerry @ethanOS Both changes are horrible. The thing that irritates me the most is that mobile and desktop sort the names and channels differently. Pick one sort method and stick with it!

I have often wondered why, when stores close, landlords leave the spaces empty for years at a time instead of lowering rents. The answer, apparently, is banks often won't let them:

    https://www.businessinsider.com/bank-financing-urban-planning-pandemic-retail-apocalypse-vacant-storefront-2023-10

    ithoughtisawa2,

@freemo @artemesia @evacide Having the landlord lower the rent for one new tenant to get someone into the space is also going to have the cascading effect of having all the existing tenants asking for lower rents.

@bryanhansel Without even reading the article I can guarantee it has selection bias written all over it.

    ithoughtisawa2,

@bryanhansel Yes. Don't you think that people who already care about society more would be more likely to ride bikes? It's not that riding makes you a better person it's that the people who already meet their criteria for being better tend to be cyclists.

    ithoughtisawa2,

@bryanhansel Yes, but the correlation is meaningless because the "better" and "worse" people are self-selecting into cyclists and non-cyclists prior to the study ever happening.

Last month, CenterPoint Energy installed massive utility poles on a sidewalk in Montrose, completely blocking the way for pedestrians. Now, the city says they will have to be removed in order to comply with ADA regulations.
