every time someone on the fediverse has a website in their bio and the domain is just their @ with a cute tld, you know you're going to see the most 2006 ass looking website in existence.
two measley blog posts about their obscure hobby. one page that is just a list of programming languages they've known and loved. one weirdly framed photo of like a bridge near their apartment.
and the colors? oh you better believe they are high contrast for readability.
@s_bergmann I think there are already way too many surfaces that have been saturated with that sort of thing to want to also put it directly into the terminal
On a related note: it feels really good to get the FreeCAD port (the source of truth going forward, shifting over from @ErinRose's excellent efforts in Fusion) done with reference PCBs, fittings, and fixings, with the technical drawings (to make sure the tolerances are dialled in) the only important part still in flight.
Tired: Closing issues with "won't fix"
Wired: Closing issues with "THE SOFTWARE IS PROVIDED “AS IS”, WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO THE WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE AND NONINFRINGEMENT."
First: Sexual assault survivor asks Thomas not to use the word "rape" to refer to what big tech companies do to people's privacy
Second: Thomas asserts that the word "rape" has meanings besides literal sexual assault (an odd assertion to make in response to a request that is predicated on the existence of multiple possible meanings for the word "rape")
There are two possible explanations for why Thomas chose that as a response:
Either Thomas is very bad at reading comprehension
Or
Thomas is a condescending dickwad who chose to be a jerk to sexual assault victims on purpose just so he could make a point about privacy in tech
Which is it, Thomas?
ETA: in case it's not clear, I am also a sexual assault survivor. We're everywhere! And we don't always agree on everything but I think everyone thinks that dismissing our objections and pretending nothing was ever said is a shitty response to us bringing up our preferences vis-a-vis the language used on our timelines.
Upcoming feature freeze and UI freeze for FreeCAD 1.0
During the planned online developers meeting today, we agreed on the following plan towards FreeCAD 1.0.
The development branch will enter feature freeze on June 3, at the PR merge meeting. Here is what it means to contributors:
satisfying brain-scratching noodling from the weekend + earlier:
(I am very new at these, and am going to keep devouring whatever reference material and examples I can scrounge. Also, you 1st Angle vs 3rd Angle culture war people need to take a chill pill.)
I posted about brain cancer and hope to find people to pick up the torch on my accessibility projects that I think could help make the web better. I have a major surgery May 29th and time is short. I will only become less able.
I'm happy to answer any questions, or just discuss things, but I do ask that kind words on cancer not be posted here, despite my appreciation for them.
