"Looking at all of this together, yeah, the Lisa and Macintosh took a lot from Xerox. But, they also added a lot. The Smalltalk environment was a revolutionary GUI, but it was still a system you would have had to have been a computer operator or something to really use. It’s not a personal computer at all."

🇮🇱 Exporting militarism: how Israeli companies market repression in Latin America

「 In the favelas in Brazil, the militarised police unit BOPE (Special Police Operations Unit) cooperates with ISDS, and the methods of repression in the favelas and in Palestine are very similar. BOPE occupies the rooftops of homes to control and kill people, just as the Israeli military does in Palestinian cities 」

A client asked me if it was a good idea to move to GCP, told him that regardless of the costs, he'll have a better chance of getting the Pope on the phone than meaningful support from Google.

The cloud equivalent of buying a used car. You're pretty much on your own. Plus very few professionals in our region are getting certified on it.

Most get some Azure | AWS | OCI certs.

GCP is a joke, even down here.

「 Most of us, if we found ourselves trudging up 21 flights of stairs, would just get pissed off and leave it there. But Hoare decided to do something about it. He opened his laptop and began designing a new computer language, one that he hoped would make it possible to write small, fast code without memory bugs. He named it Rust, after a group of remarkably hardy fungi that are, he says, “over-engineered for survival.” 」

Went to a local meetup about AI and legal chatbots, since it's something I know about I thought it would be interesting to see their approach.

They're smarter and younger than me, I was sure that the new tools and techniques available now would give them a greater advantage.

I was appalled, not by their lack of technical knowledge, but by their blind faith and careless approach to a social problem too.

Domain knowledge when it comes to legal and health issues aren't a "nice to have".

Meanwhile turns out that .art is leading the fight for privacy and user rights.

Hearing the slurs and insults at the "loud minority" reminds me how toxic and full of corporate shills the community really is.

Returned on a Taxi because of that, the driver saw my T-shirt and we started talking about how young people are proud of having shit taste.

The older I get the more 70s t-shirts I must wear to get good conversation starters. I'll try next time. I'm overstock on DSOTM t-shirts for some reason.

「 LLM-generated code is for creating software quickly and cheaply. It's for mass-producing parts of software that can be assembled into something working good enough.
